Alte Feuerwache
About
So I stumbled across Alte Feuerwache during one of those "let's try something different" booking moments, and honestly? It turned out to be one of those happy accidents. The name literally means "old fire station" in German, and you can tell this place has some serious history baked into its bones – there's something about the brick facade and those tall windows that just screams converted industrial space, you know?
Walking in, you immediately get that this isn't your cookie-cutter hotel experience. The lobby has this raw, authentic vibe with exposed beams and industrial touches that actually work instead of feeling forced. I mean, sure, it's a 3-star place so don't expect marble everything, but there's character here that a lot of fancier spots completely lack. The staff seemed genuinely local – not that polished, corporate-trained thing you get at chains – and they actually knew the neighborhood well enough to point me toward this fantastic little café around the corner that I never would've found otherwise.
The rooms are... well, they're honest. Clean, functional, with decent beds that didn't leave me complaining in the morning. You can hear a bit of street noise if you're on the front side, but nothing that kept me awake – just that gentle urban hum that reminds you you're actually in a real place, not some sterile hotel bubble. What really struck me was how the renovation respected the building's fire station heritage without turning it into some cheesy theme park version. The hallways still have that institutional width, and some rooms have these unexpectedly high ceilings that make the space feel bigger than it actually is.
Parking was surprisingly manageable – there's a small lot behind the building, though you'll want to mention you're staying here when you book because spaces fill up. The neighborhood itself is the kind of area that feels genuinely lived-in, with actual shops and restaurants that locals use, not just tourist traps. I grabbed groceries at a market just two blocks away, and there's this bakery that opens ridiculously early where the smell of fresh bread basically serves as your alarm clock.
Look, this isn't going to blow your mind with luxury amenities or anything, but sometimes that's exactly what you want. The 7.4 rating feels about right – it's solid, reliable, and has enough personality to make your stay memorable without trying too hard. If you're the type who appreciates authentic spaces with real stories, and you don't need someone fluffing your pillows twice a day, Alte Feuerwache delivers exactly what it promises. Plus, honestly, there's something pretty cool about sleeping in a former fire station – it's not every day you get to experience a piece of local history without paying boutique hotel prices.

Everything was very clean and just a few minutes ago from a tram Station to the city center
The access instructions were clear. The room was clean, cosy and modern. There's a fridge, an induction stove, a coffee machine with coffee capsules and a toaster; everything fully operational. I had no problem finding a free space to park in the street right outside the hotel.
We stayed from 24.12 to 02.01 in a twin room (two small beds with a private bathroom) on the 3rd floor (in fact, on the 4th and in the attic itself). For a short holiday, for a couple of nights, this room is the most cozy place. • I am glad that despite the fact that the hostel does not have a reception, the administration was always in touch and answered on the website; • in a quiet, residential area, a little far from the center on foot, but by tram M5 you can easily get to Alexandrplatz or the train station (the stop is very close to the hostel); • there is a large TV, a refrigerator, a kettle with fillers, and a stove.
The room was clean, compact but adequate for a couple. The facilities in the room were just about right, fridge, cooking hob and a fold out table. The “Hotel” has local amenities including cafes, restaurants and a supermarket. The M5 tram line in only a minutes walk away, this tram line stops at the Berlin Ringbahn and Alexanderplatz.
cleanliness, location, free parking
*Nice locality near the tram station *Easy check-in
- It was fairly quiet, except for the trams going past if you choose to open the windows. - Easy checkin/checkout -- it's more like Airbnb where you don't see the host, and you just pick up the keys, in this case it's an electronic door code - transport is okay (M5 tram stop almost right by the building), but it does take around 25mins to get to Alexanderplatz so if you plan on going to west side Berlin more it can take some time getting there and back
