Artistic Altbau Apartment
About
You know what? I wasn't expecting much from the Artistic Altbau Apartment when I first booked it – honestly, the name made me think it might be trying too hard. But walking into this place completely changed my perspective on what a 3-star stay could actually be. The building itself is one of those gorgeous old Altbau structures (that's "old building" for anyone not familiar with German architecture), and you can feel the history in those thick walls and impossibly high ceilings the moment you step inside.
The apartment has this lived-in authenticity that's hard to fake – I mean, you're staying in what feels like a real Berlin home rather than some cookie-cutter hotel room. The original hardwood floors creak just enough to remind you of the building's age, but not in an annoying way. There's actual artwork on the walls (hence the name, I guess), and it's not the mass-produced stuff you usually see. The kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped – I actually cooked breakfast a couple mornings, which is something I rarely bother with when traveling. The neighborhood around here is where locals actually live and work, so you'll find proper cafes and bakeries within a few blocks, not just tourist traps. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, though I'd recommend confirming the process beforehand since it's not a traditional hotel setup.
What really sold me on this place was how quiet it gets at night despite being in the city. Those old Altbau walls are thick as bunkers, so street noise isn't really an issue. The 9.0 rating honestly makes sense once you're there – it's not trying to be luxury, but it nails everything it's supposed to do. Sure, the bathroom could use a small update and the WiFi occasionally gets moody (though that might just be Berlin in general), but these feel like minor details when you're getting this much character and space for the price. I'd definitely come back, especially if I was planning a longer stay where having a proper kitchen and living area would matter.

Die Wohnung ist sehr nett eingerichtet. Betten top!!! Bettwäsche und Handtücher haben schön frisch gewaschen gerochen. Wir haben nur eine Nacht dort verbracht und dafür war die Wohnung vollkommen in Ordnung.
