Best Western Hotel am Spittelmarkt
About
You know what really struck me about the Best Western am Spittelmarkt? It's one of those places that doesn't try to be something it's not – and honestly, that's refreshing in Berlin where so many hotels are either trying too hard to be boutique or they're soulless chains. This one sits right in Mitte, and I mean *right* in the thick of things, which is both a blessing and something to know about if you're a light sleeper.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. Spittelmarkt isn't one of those tourist traps – it's where actual Berliners go about their business, so you've got this great mix of cafes and shops that aren't marked up for visitors. The U-Bahn station is basically at your doorstep (which, let's be honest, is everything in Berlin), and you can walk to Museum Island in about fifteen minutes if you don't mind crossing a few busy streets. I stayed there in October and the whole area had this nice autumn energy – people heading to work, students with coffee, that sort of authentic city rhythm you can't manufacture.
The hotel itself feels solid in that reliable Best Western way, but with some German efficiency thrown in that I actually appreciated. Check-in was quick, the front desk staff switched between German and English without missing a beat, and they knew their stuff about the neighborhood. The rooms are what you'd expect from a three-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent WiFi, nothing fancy but nothing to complain about either. The windows are surprisingly good at blocking street noise, which matters because you're literally in the middle of Berlin here. I mean, you'll still hear some traffic if you're facing the main street, but it's not the kind of thing that'll keep you up. The breakfast room gets pretty busy around 8 AM (typical German efficiency strikes again – everyone shows up at the same time), but if you can swing 7:30 or after 9, you'll have a much more relaxed start to your day.
What I really liked was how the place felt connected to the neighborhood rather than dropped into it. The lobby has these big windows facing the street, so you can watch Berlin wake up with your morning coffee, and the whole vibe is more "local hotel that happens to be well-run" than "international chain that could be anywhere." For the price point and that 8.4 rating – which honestly feels about right – it's the kind of place you book when you want to spend your money on Berlin experiences rather than hotel amenities. You're not getting a spa or room service, but you're getting a solid base in one of the city's most walkable areas, with staff who actually know the difference between the tourist Berlin and the real one.
Berlin hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Mitte district to elegant converted buildings and modern accommodations near the Brandenburg Gate.

Fantastic location, just 3 min walking from the U-Bahn (metro station). Breakfast offers variety of options, including lactose-intolerant options. The staff is super friendly, specially Miguel. WiFi worked great. Room was spacious, bathroom was clean.
Only stayed for one night and for that purpose it was great. It's a very standard hotel. No frills but does the trick. It was clean and quiet. There was tea and coffee in the room. The bed was nice but the pillows were a bit hard. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a café and bakery close by if you don't have breakfast included. It's also close to the metro and easy to find. Overall, I had a lovely stay and would recommend in Berlin.
