Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg by IHG
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to the Candlewood Suites on Franklinstraße, I wasn't expecting much. It's tucked into this quiet residential stretch in Charlottenburg, and from the outside it looks pretty standard. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming places surprise you the most.
What really got me was how genuinely useful this place is for anyone staying more than a couple nights. I mean, every room has a proper kitchenette – not just a mini-fridge and sad coffee maker, but an actual stovetop and full-size fridge. The first morning I walked down to that little Edeka on Kantstraße (maybe a 7-minute walk), grabbed some groceries, and actually cooked breakfast in my room. There's something oddly satisfying about that when you're traveling, especially if you're getting tired of restaurant meals every single day. The staff mentioned they get a lot of business travelers who stay for weeks, and honestly, I can see why.
The neighborhood itself is what sold me though. Franklinstraße is one of those streets that feels properly Berlin – tree-lined, quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open, but you're still only about 15 minutes from the chaos around Zoologischer Garten. I loved walking down to Lietzensee in the evenings; there's this little path that curves around the water, and locals bring their dogs there. It's maybe a 10-minute stroll from the hotel. And if you need the U-Bahn, Deutsche Oper station is right there – though fair warning, that area gets pretty lively when there's a show letting out.
The rooms themselves are bigger than you'd expect for Berlin, with this sort of American extended-stay vibe that actually works. Everything's clean and functional without trying too hard to be trendy. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and there's enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. I appreciated little things like having a proper desk to work at and blackout curtains that actually block light – you'd be surprised how rare that is. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters if you're trying to get work done or stream something after a long day walking around the city.
What really impressed me was how the staff handled things. Check-in was quick and straightforward, and when I had questions about getting to Tegel (this was before BER opened), they actually printed out transit directions instead of just pointing vaguely toward the U-Bahn. Small thing, but it mattered. The lobby has this 24-hour market setup where you can grab snacks or forgotten essentials without trekking to a späti, which came in handy more than once.
It's not going to win any design awards, and you're not staying here for Instagram moments – but sometimes you just want a place that works well and doesn't fight you on the basics. For the price point in Berlin, especially in Charlottenburg where everything's gotten ridiculously expensive, it delivers on what it promises without any nonsense. I'd definitely stay here again, particularly if I was in town for more than just a quick weekend.

Overall, I was happy with my stay and would consider coming back again in the future.
The the apartment was very clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was quite convenient, with easy access to public transport and nearby places.
During my stay in Berlin, the weather was hot. Unfortunately, the room only had a fan, which didn’t do much to cool things down, so it felt a bit stuffy at times. I was also a little disappointed that the TV didn’t have any channels and there was no option to connect to Netflix.
Good
Had a lovely stay, the room is quite spacious for storing luggage, the bed was very comfortable and there were many amenities for cooking, etc. The staff was wonderful as well.
The shower did not have a door, so the entire bathroom would get wet after we showered. Also, there is very little clothing storage for a room meant for 2 people.
No frills and fuss stay!
Easily accessible by transportation.

One night stay
It was my first time staying here and I must say, I was positively surprised. There is a 24/7 reception in the building next door with a very friendly and helpful staff. There's also a fridge there with soft drinks that you can buy and pay for right at the reception. The building itself is nice and modern and the room is as well. Very cozy, nothing was missing in the room. There's a fan in the room which is a nice bonus during the summer. Complementary tea and coffee are a nice touch.
Nothing to say, everything was great.
I'd stay here again.
The Apartment was comfortable, well equipped and met my needs for a 5 night stay. The Staff were helpful and responded to any questions I had. The Apartment is located in a commercial area, with the cafes, bars, restaurants and bus services close by.
Nothing,
For the most part my stay at the candlewood was lovely and comfortable despite slight mishaps.
The place open arrival was easy to find and staff was helpful, and the room itself was also clean and well stocked with utilities.
The only “air conditioning” was an extremely dusty fan that seemed to never have been dusted and cleaned. The room labeled air conditioning as one of the utilities so that was very disappointing and my boyfriend caught a cold during our stay which I believe has to do with the dust he ingested while the fan was on. We ended up taking it apart and cleaning it to the best of our abilities, something I don’t want to be doing during my vacation. House keeping also appeared to be extra based on papers pinned in the room so my room was only cleaned once in my 8 day stay and that was only after I requested it.
Great value hotel in Berlin, will stay again if I ever !
Love the kitchenette, so handy when you are traveling alone! Room was so nice, it was very clean and the room was perfect. Felt luxury and worth the price.
1. Dishwasher tablets, needed more of them in the room 2. Bin bags was missing in some of the bins 3. Weird check-in, confusing where to go maybe a sign at the door to help people?
Wonderful time
In a quiet area, some may feel boring, but it felt very safe. Accommodation was spacious, modern and clean Most comfortable bed ever slept in. Great transport links once you found them, five mins walk to 245 bus at top of road goes to Zoo or Friedrichstrausee, where there are links to everywhere, it was so easy, no need to walk to Tiergarten. It was 30 degrees when we were there, there is no AC, but the room was surprisingly cool with the window open. The bar in the hotel next door, which is part of the same set up was very nice and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
No kettle or toaster. As a Brit who likes her tea and toast in the morning, this was disappointing.
Superb
Good facilities and location, the staff were friendly and our room was great value for money
The room itself had bad ventilation and so cooking smells lingered and it was quite hot!
Good choice
Room, kitchenette and bathroom in good standard. Very clean and quiet.
