Das besondere Quartier in Berlin Pankow
About
You know what's funny about Berlin? Everyone talks about Mitte and Kreuzberg, but some of the best finds are tucked away in neighborhoods you'd never think to look. Das besondere Quartier is one of those places – literally "the special quarter" – and honestly, the name isn't just marketing fluff. I stumbled across this 4-star gem in Pankow during a trip when everything in the touristy areas was either booked solid or ridiculously overpriced.
The thing about Pankow is that it feels authentically Berlin without trying too hard. You're on Cesar-Franck-Straße, which sounds fancy but it's actually this quiet residential street lined with those classic Berlin apartment buildings and little cafés that locals actually use. The hotel itself sits in what looks like a converted townhouse – you can tell they put real thought into keeping the neighborhood character intact. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no pretentious lobby scene), and the staff actually seemed to know the area instead of just rattling off generic tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible bakery two blocks down that I never would've found otherwise.
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both polished and unpretentious. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – I mean, the kind where you actually sleep well instead of just posting Instagram photos. And here's something you don't always get in Berlin hotels: it's properly quiet at night. Pankow doesn't have the late-night party energy of other districts, which honestly was perfect after long days exploring the city. The S-Bahn connection is solid too – you can get to Alexanderplatz in about 20 minutes, but when you come "home" in the evening, it feels like stepping into a completely different city. Parking wasn't a nightmare either, which anyone who's driven in Berlin will tell you is basically a miracle. The 8.4 rating makes sense once you're there – it's not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but everything just... works. Sometimes that's exactly what you need.

Great apartment in landlords home
The owner was very friendly and helpful We managed the language with Google translate Everything was clean and comfortable The decor was very nice fancy 1980's Easy parking on residential street Easy walk to tram
If I had to find fault it only would have been nice to have coffee on hand for the coffee maker....but that was not really a big deal
it was good, quiet and comfy.
The privacy. it’s like a second apartment on the second floor, you have your own fridge, boiler, toilet and a living room besides the bedroom. It was actually quite big.
there’s no kitchen, which is ok for a short stay but I think maybe a small electric oven would do the trick for longer periods of time. Also, it would be good for them to have salt, sugar, tea and coffee for short time travelers that don’t want to buy those small stuff but are necessary.
Comfortable accomodation
The kindness and attention of the owner, quiet and warm apartment, the bed was really good, 10 minutes walk from M1 stop.
No water in the kitchen
Loved it!
No breakfast was requested. It was very quiet. The owners were very nice! Their English was not great but was still able to understand them mostly.
It was a 10 minute walk to the nearest public transportation but it was a great trade off for the nice neighborhood and quiet surrounding.
Exceptional
It is a really great place to stay when you visit Berlin. Location is in a very peaceful area and you can really rest after a long day of sightseeing. It's 30-40minutes from Alexanderplatz and the transport is easy to navigate. The apartment is really spacious, clean, you have everything you need. Yes, the sink is only in the bathroom so you wash the dishes there, but that really doesn't matter much. Beds are big and clean, pillows are soft, wifi works great and overall these little things that someone might find as a negative are really irrelevant when you look at what you are getting. There are two big supermarkets nearby. The hosts are so quiet and so very polite. We didn't even notice them being in the same house. They don't speak English but they use translator so there are really no problems in communication. Overall this is one of the best places I've had a chance to stay in and I recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Berlin but still wants a place to rest.

Exceptional
The apartments exceeded expectations. We thought that we rented a room with two beds, but lived in a separate apartment with a kitchen, a bedroom and a spacious hall. The house is located in a beautiful and peaceful area.
The city center can be reached in about 50 minutes by public transport or 30 minutes by car
Exceptional
I travelled with my friend, we were lucky to meet the owner right on the street. I know just a few sentences in german, but it was enough to understand each other with a help of a bit of gestures. The place was cute and cosy, it has a special atmosphere. I very appreciated the huge bed. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, perfect for a walk. There's a shop nearby and a park a bit farther. It takes about an hour to get to the city center, but you can get there by one tram. And need to say again that the owners are very polite and positive people! :)
Exceptional
Clean room, friendly lady to greet, very private, quiet area, easy parking and only 15 minutes drive to the centre of the Berlin.
Passable
The hosts were friendly and kind, the place was large, good location near tram and bus stations, there were microwave machine and electic kettle
The bed was a little uncomfortable because it was quite soft and there were (assuming animal) hairs on the sheets which was unacceptable
Superb
War sehr ruhig
