Erlanger Hof
About
You know what? The Erlanger Hof surprised me. I'll be honest – when I first pulled up, I wasn't expecting much from a three-star place, but sometimes those assumptions bite you in the ass. This hotel has that solid, unpretentious German vibe that actually works in its favor. The building itself has some character to it, none of that sterile chain hotel nonsense that makes you forget which city you're even in.
The staff here – and I mean this – actually seem to give a damn. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling attempts, just straightforward service from people who know their job. My room was clean (like, properly clean, not just surface-level), and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected. Nothing fancy, but the linens were decent and I slept well, which is really all that matters after a long day of wandering around. The bathroom was small but functional – hot water came quick, good water pressure, though the shower is one of those European setups where you need to be strategic about not flooding the entire floor.
What I appreciated most was how quiet it gets at night. You're not dealing with paper-thin walls or hearing every conversation in the hallway at 2 AM. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in feel – you'll see locals going about their business, actual bakeries and cafes where people grab their morning coffee, not just tourist traps. There's decent parking nearby (though you might have to circle once or twice during busy periods), and I noticed they're pretty flexible about storing luggage if you arrive early or need to leave it after checkout. The breakfast spread was simple but solid – fresh bread, decent coffee, nothing Instagram-worthy but it'll fuel you up properly. Overall, it's the kind of place that does the basics really well without trying to be something it's not, and honestly? That 7.9 rating feels about right. It's not going to blow your mind, but you'll leave satisfied and probably consider staying again.
