Garner Hotel Berlin – Gendarmenmarkt, an IHG Hotel
About
First Impressions
Walking up to the Garner Hotel Berlin – Gendarmenmarkt, an IHG Hotel on Charlottenstraße, you immediately get that "I'm in the right place" feeling. This four-star property sits right in Berlin's cultural heart, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with the sophisticated Mitte neighborhood — not flashy, but you know quality when you see it.
The Gendarmenmarkt Advantage
Here's what I love about staying here — you're literally steps away from one of Europe's most beautiful squares. The Gendarmenmarkt is right there, with the French and German Cathedrals creating this incredible backdrop that never gets old. You can walk to the Brandenburg Gate in about 15 minutes, but honestly, you might find yourself just hanging around the neighborhood because there's so much to discover. The cafés, the little galleries tucked between historic buildings, the way the light hits those baroque facades in the evening — it's the kind of area where you actually want to wander without a plan.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in was exactly what you'd expect from a solid four-star — clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything you need without unnecessary frills. What struck me was how quiet it was, considering you're in the center of everything. The windows are well-insulated, which matters when you're this close to the action. The bathroom was modern and spacious enough, though nothing particularly memorable — just well-executed basics that work perfectly for a few nights in the city.
Morning Fuel and Practical Perks
The breakfast buffet actually surprised me in a good way. I mean, hotel breakfasts can be hit or miss, but they've got a solid spread that goes beyond the usual continental setup. Fresh pastries, decent coffee, and enough variety to fuel whatever adventure you've got planned. What really sets this place apart, though, is having parking available right at the hotel — if you're driving in Berlin (which I wouldn't necessarily recommend, but sometimes you need to), that's a genuine relief in this part of the city.
Why Guests Love It
The location score of 9.3 tells the whole story, really. Couples especially seem to get it — there's something romantic about being able to step out your door and find yourself surrounded by all that history and architecture. You're close enough to everything that matters but tucked away on a quieter street, so you get the best of both worlds. It's the kind of place where you can drop your bags, grab a quick shower, and be exploring Berlin's highlights within minutes. The staff knows the area well too, so don't hesitate to ask for recommendations — they'll point you toward spots that aren't in every guidebook.
The concierge service in Berlin can arrange exclusive tours of the Berlin Wall remnants, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize personalized visits to world-class museums and the historic Reichstag building.

Good location near the subway, friendly receptionist which helps with all questions, the room was not noisy, you couldn't hear the neighbors or the noise from the corridor.

Close to central Berlin for tourism. Quiet room which was adequately appointed. Relatively clean and comfortable. The staff were all helpful and breakfasts were good.
Room needed a little bit of a makeover but overall a good hotel
Decent location and the price was fair for last minute booking to Berlin.
The location, in the city centre. Very close to shops, metro stations and monuments.
convenient location and it was ok, but could have been better if not let down and slightly not looked after at some detail
The breakfast was very good. The localisation was great.
