Garner Hotel Berlin – Gendarmenmarkt by IHG
About
So I stumbled across the Garner Hotel Berlin while looking for something decent near Gendarmenmarkt, and honestly? It's one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. You walk in and there's this understated elegance thing happening – not fancy in a stuffy way, but you can tell someone actually thought about the design. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling that makes you want to grab a coffee and people-watch through those big windows facing Charlottenstraße.
What really sold me on this place was the location – I mean, you're literally a two-minute walk from one of Berlin's most gorgeous squares. Gendarmenmarkt is stunning any time of day, but early morning when the light hits those twin cathedrals? Chef's kiss. The hotel sits right in the thick of Mitte, which means you can walk to Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate, all that tourist stuff, but you're also surrounded by actual Berliners going about their day. There's this little bakery around the corner on Französische Straße that does incredible pretzels – the hotel staff actually mentioned it during check-in, which tells you they know their neighborhood.
The rooms are what you'd expect from IHG but with some thoughtful Berlin touches. Nothing groundbreaking, but the beds are properly comfortable and the bathrooms have decent water pressure (always a gamble in older European buildings, you know?). I stayed on the fourth floor and it was pretty quiet, though you'll definitely hear some street noise if you're facing Charlottenstraße – comes with the territory in this part of town. The Wi-Fi actually works, which sounds basic but you'd be surprised how many places mess this up. One small thing that bugged me – the air conditioning was a bit temperamental during my summer stay, but the windows open wide and Berlin evenings cool down nicely.
Service-wise, the front desk folks were genuinely helpful without being overly chatty. They knew the good dinner spots (skip the tourist traps on Unter den Linden, hit up Lokal Modern instead), could sort out U-Bahn tickets, that kind of practical stuff that makes your trip smoother. Check-in was quick even though I arrived during what seemed like a busy conference week – lots of business travelers in sharp suits mixing with families doing the Berlin museum circuit.
Look, this isn't going to be the most Instagram-worthy hotel in Berlin, and at a 7.5 rating it's not pretending to be perfect. But sometimes you want a place that just works well without any drama. The Garner delivers on that front – solid rooms, great location, staff who seem to actually live in the city they're working in. If you're the type who wants to spend your days exploring Berlin rather than hanging around your hotel, this is your spot. Just book early if you're visiting during Christmas market season – Gendarmenmarkt becomes absolutely magical but everything fills up fast.

perfect hotel for a city trip considering the location, the hotel itself had lots of information about the city and a ve
checking in was very easy and the room itself was quite spacious with the showering the middle of the room, for us as a couple that was not a problem, but i can imagine for some other travelers it might not be as comfortable. The location was perfect and the room was very quite, eventhough the hotel was located in the city centre.
the room service almost walked into the room while we were showering. the breakfast was quite pricy if you were with more people (€20 per person). Also the parking spot for the hotel was full and there is no possibility to reserve a spot. We had to park somewhere else, luckily there was a parking spot across the street, so the distance was bad to walk with the bags.
Very good
Brilliant location, clean and quiet.
Nothing
Value for money, good location and clean
Was great value for money. Room a bit to small but was ok. Very clean. Front desk staff were slow and not very well coordinated
Clean and value for money
Very good
Its a good location connected with metro and buses to the center, yet quite far from the say Alexanderplatz. Brandenburg is close though. Compact room not too much space. Drawer yes. Clean. Elevators work only with a card, annoying. Bikes were 15 euro/day, like.
There were quite a few good, helpful guys on the reception. Yet, one guy told us we could have also bought that same bottle of water for 30cents just around the corner. He told us that the moment my card was confirmed for 4 euro. Funny guy right ;-) Also, it took them two breakfasts to confirm that we’ve booked a breakfast for my daughter also. That wasn’t funny. It was the way their system worked, they said…
Great!
The location was perfect and the beds were so comfortable!
On arrival we had no hand soap as it was empty but it was no big deal!
Very good
The bed is good and blanket. Love it.
A week full of exploration and discovery; the Bavarian pub restaurant just up the road was terrific,
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good and the staff on duty for that were great. Being there for a week we got to know them quite well.
A kettle in the room to enjoy a hot drink when relaxing between walking around places of interest would have been very nice. There was a fridge but sometimes it just needs a cup of tea that hits the spot.
Nice hotel, central enough to walk everywhere.
Very nice rooms, good size and comfy. Near to grocery and cosmetic store which was useful. Not right in the centre but it’s not a long walk and there’s lots to see on the way. There is a metro station practically right next to the hotel. We only used it once but it seemed easy to use.
We had a problem with our air conditioning and it took 3 members of staff to help us. All seemed quite reluctant and annoyed that we were asking for help. I’m not one to usually ask for help so that put me off a little. Tv wasn’t great. A lot of loud slamming a night, might’ve been the doors but then ours didn’t do that?
Superb

Great stay!
It was a great hotel, very clean and good facilities.
The bar was very small in the lobby, but enough to have a drink before heading out. There wasn't any tea/coffee making facilities in the room, which would have been nice.
