Gartenhaus
About
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Gartenhaus on Schneehornpfad, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this three-star spot in Pankow. The name literally means "garden house" in German, and you know what? It actually lives up to that promise. There's something refreshingly unpretentious about the place — it feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend's house than a typical hotel. The fact that there's free parking right on site was already a win in my book, especially since finding a spot in Berlin can be such a headache.
The Pankow Advantage
I'll be honest, Pankow isn't exactly the neighborhood that first comes to mind when you think of Berlin hotspots. But that's actually part of its charm — you're getting a genuine slice of local life without the tourist crowds. The area has this quiet, residential feel with tree-lined streets and proper German bakeries where locals actually go for their morning coffee. It's about a 20-minute S-Bahn ride to get into the city center, which means you can easily hit all the major sights but come back to something that feels like a real neighborhood. Couples seem to really get this vibe (they've rated the location 9.4), and I can see why — it's romantic in that understated way.
Your Home Base
The room I stayed in had that clean, minimalist German aesthetic going on — nothing flashy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The bed was properly comfortable, and there was enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without feeling cramped. What I appreciated most was how quiet everything was at night; you're far enough from the main roads that you can actually sleep with the windows open. The whole setup just feels thoughtfully designed rather than thrown together, which you don't always get at this price point.
The Details That Matter
Here's where Gartenhaus really shows its worth — it's all about the small things done right. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you're sorted, not just going through the motions. When I had questions about getting to different parts of the city, they didn't just hand me a generic map but actually took time to explain the best routes. The common areas have this cozy, lived-in feeling that makes you want to linger over your morning coffee rather than rush out. And honestly, having that guaranteed parking spot meant I could explore the city without worrying about where to leave the car.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.3 rating isn't just a number — you can feel it in how the place operates. It's the kind of hotel where everything works smoothly without any fuss or drama. You're not paying for marble lobbies or fancy amenities you'll never use; instead, you're getting solid comfort and genuine hospitality in a part of Berlin that feels authentic. For travelers who want to experience the city like locals do rather than just tick off tourist boxes, this place hits the sweet spot between affordability and quality. I mean, when couples are consistently rating it this highly, they're clearly doing something right.

The owners were super friendly, the garden was lovely and the accommodation was super comfy. The location was perfect for us, surrounded by sweet little houses and gardens, walking distance a big Kaufland. We also appreciated that there were delicious grapes growing outside, which we were free to pick and eat. If you were lucky you could even see racoons!
Location very close to shops and fast food restaurants but meantime feels like nice and green suburb, beautiful garden, very friendly and helpful host living in house nearby. Table games offered. Very easy to find a way to city center by public transport, but car advisable.
friendly welcome 😊
Hosts are very hospitable, the place is clean and comfortable. Overall location is splendid and quite and we enjoyed it a lot. Especially during our stay in beginning of May when all trees and flowers are in bloom. Karin and Andreas are great hosts. We definitely recommend this place.
Lovely accommodation that exceeded our expectations. Large independent guest house, with wonderful hosts. Fireplace, football, very cozy. How will it come to my grandmother in the village. Parking near the house. Convenient location, 15 minutes walk to the tram stop and direct transport to Alexander Platz. 10 minutes walk to the supermarket. Thank you very much to the owners for such a wonderful place.
That is one of the most comfortable places I’ve ever been. Very cosy and beautiful. Friendly owner. Amazing garden😌 Thank you for your hospitality!
A very comfortable apartment with a beautiful garden. The very nice owner waited for us very kindly, even though we were late, treating us with candies on the pillows and wine in the fridge. The kitchen has all the necessary utilities, the beds are very comfortable, everything will make you feel at home. We are very sorry that we did not manage to stay longer, due to the very busy schedule, but we will definitely come back to Berlin and our choice will be for sure Gartenhaus.
