Grimm’s Potsdamer Platz
About
You know what struck me first about Grimm's Potsdamer Platz? The name actually makes sense once you're there – there's something almost fairy-tale-like about stumbling onto this cozy 3-star spot right in the heart of one of Berlin's busiest districts. I mean, Potsdamer Platz can feel pretty overwhelming with all those glass towers and corporate vibes, but this place somehow manages to feel like a genuine retreat from all that chaos.
The thing is, most people think staying near Potsdamer Platz means you're stuck with either expensive business hotels or tourist traps, but Grimm's sort of sits in this sweet spot between the two. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel – nothing fancy, but you can tell they've put thought into making it welcoming rather than just functional. Check-in was refreshingly quick (I've waited longer at hostels, honestly), and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well enough to give decent restaurant recommendations beyond the obvious chains you'll find in the Sony Center.
What really sold me on the place was how quiet it gets at night, which – if you've ever tried to sleep near Potsdamer Platz during a weekend – you'll know is no small feat. The rooms aren't huge, but they're thoughtfully laid out, and the beds are actually comfortable (not just "hotel comfortable," but genuinely good sleep comfortable). The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure and those little touches that show someone's paying attention to the guest experience. I particularly appreciated that the windows actually open – seems like such a basic thing, but you'd be surprised how many Berlin hotels have you trapped with recycled air conditioning.
Location-wise, you're literally a few minutes' walk from the S-Bahn and U-Bahn connections, which means getting anywhere in the city is pretty straightforward. But here's what the booking sites don't tell you – you're also close enough to walk to some of Berlin's best neighborhoods without dealing with tourist crowds every time you step outside. Kreuzberg's just across the canal, Mitte's an easy stroll north, and if you're into the whole government district thing, it's right there too.
The 8.8 rating honestly doesn't surprise me – it's one of those places that doesn't try to be something it's not, but executes everything really well. The breakfast is solid (nothing revolutionary, but fresh and varied enough), the common areas are comfortable without being pretentious, and there's just this overall sense that they care about getting the fundamentals right. For a 3-star hotel in this part of the city, that's actually pretty remarkable. I've stayed at supposedly fancier places that felt more impersonal and less comfortable than this. It's the kind of spot where you end up staying longer than planned because everything just works the way it should.

This hotel is cute, quirky in the best way, & accessible to everywhere we wanted to visit! Very comfortable & the breakfast buffet was amazing!
Great location and friendly staff. The breakfast was supurb and the small fairy tale elements added a nice touch.
Good location, Nice decoration and theme of the hotel
Great location in the city, within walking distance to most things including the U Bahn. Within a 10 minute walk to two large shopping centers. About a 40 minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof, the walk was nice and we saw a lot of sites on the way to the hotel. Could also easily get a train or bus, we used these to get around the city quicker. The hotel was super clean and we were given a free room upgrade which was nice. The bathroom was nice and big and there was cosy underfloor heating. The room was cleaned daily and the hotel was based on the Grimm fairytale stories. The staff were very friendly and helpful, never got a chance to eat the breakfast or at the restaurant but it looked nice. Would definitely go back again!
Modern clean and welcoming

It is close to public transport and a short walk to Potsdamer Platz. Nice rooms light rooms with comfortable beds. The breakfast is very good with great decaf coffee and the staff is very friendyl Check in and out is very quick and easy. Small but good gym in the 7th florr with a nice view and open 24/7!
The theming was cute and for that price it had a lot going on, with its fully restaurant and bar. It defintely felt much classier than I expected when I walked in, the room was similarly professional. The staff were truly exceptional.
