Holiday Inn Berlin City East Side by IHG
About
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I first pulled up to the Holiday Inn on Wanda-Kallenbach-Strasse – I mean, it's a Holiday Inn, right? But this place actually surprised me. The building sits right in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, which is probably my favorite part of Berlin these days, and you can literally walk to the East Side Gallery in about ten minutes. That's the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall, covered in murals, and it's genuinely moving to see – not just tourist trap stuff.
What I really appreciated about this hotel is how it feels like they get the neighborhood. The lobby has this modern, clean vibe without being sterile, and the staff actually knows the area well enough to give you real recommendations. When I asked about dinner spots, the guy at the front desk steered me toward this incredible Turkish place on Boxhagener Straße instead of some overpriced tourist restaurant. The rooms are what you'd expect from a solid 4-star – comfortable beds, good shower pressure (honestly a big deal after walking around Berlin all day), and surprisingly quiet considering you're in the middle of one of the city's liveliest districts. I was worried about street noise, but the windows do their job well.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Berlin beyond just Museum Island and Brandenburg Gate – though you can get to all that stuff easily enough on the U-Bahn. Warschauer Straße station is literally a five-minute walk, and from there you're connected to everywhere. But more importantly, you're right in the heart of where young Berliners actually hang out. Boxhagener Platz has this great Saturday market, and the whole area comes alive at night with bars and clubs that locals actually go to, not just the crazy tourist party spots. I spent one evening just wandering around RAW-Gelände, this old railway complex turned cultural space, and stumbled into the best techno show I've ever been to. You know what I mean – those random discoveries that make a trip memorable.
The breakfast was surprisingly good too, with actual decent coffee and fresh bread, plus they had some German specialties alongside the usual international stuff. Check-in was smooth, parking is available if you're driving (though I'd honestly recommend against bringing a car to Berlin), and the whole experience just felt... comfortable. Not fancy, not trying too hard, just a solid base for exploring one of Europe's most interesting cities. The 8.6 rating makes sense – it's the kind of place that doesn't blow you away, but does everything right and leaves you planning your next Berlin trip before you've even checked out.
Apartments in Berlin provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned German culinary traditions.

No fridge in the room
Exceptional
Perfect location for Uber Eats Music Hall and Uber Arena events.
Amazing stay
Amazing hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast. I will definitely visit again if I come to Berlin.
Great location, modern rooms and spotlessly clean.
Fantastic location next to the uber arena, east side and Berlin Wall memorial. Lovely clean and modern room with comfortable king size bed
Would have been nice to have a fridge or mini bar in the room with it being 4 star Also shower over deep bath combo seemed at bit old fashioned and not that easy to manoeuvre without water going everywhere
Very comfortable bed, soft bedding, and exceptionally friendly front desk staff.
High-quality bed and bedding, ensured a great night’s sleep. Great Location
Toiletries provided were basic – higher-quality products would be appreciated.
Great choice to stay in Berlin
I have been many times in Berlin, and never explored this location. I think it is a very nice place to stay, close to the Berlin Wall, but also with access to mall centers, cafes, etc. It is very live there. The hotel was very clean, and the staff super friendly. Honestly for the value, it went beyond expectations.
Superb
Location and ease of use with everything
Comfortable and clean with friendly and helpful staff
Clean and bed was very comfortable. No real noise heard from outside the room
Drinks facilities need to be in a bigger area. A plug socket is needed by the large mirror and a small mirror at the table would have been good.
Exceptional
Location- proximity to the train station and great restaurants and Uber eats music hall
Great Stay & Value
Location & proximity to Uber Arena Delicious breakfast & great bar hours
WiFi poor service
