Holiday Inn – the niu, Dwarf Berlin Schöneberg by IHG
About
You know what caught me off guard about this place? It's tucked away on Werdauer Weg in a way that makes it feel like a local secret, even though it's part of the Holiday Inn family. I stumbled across the niu Dwarf during a three-day Berlin trip last spring, and honestly, it's one of those hotels that gets the whole "modern but not sterile" thing just right.
The lobby hits you with this sort of industrial-chic vibe – exposed brick, warm lighting, furniture that actually looks comfortable instead of just Instagram-worthy. Check-in was surprisingly smooth (I mean, I've had some disasters with hotel apps, but theirs worked fine), and the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than going through the motions. The rooms are compact but cleverly designed – think smart storage solutions and a bathroom that doesn't make you bump your elbow every time you brush your teeth. The bed was actually decent quality, which matters more than people realize, and the soundproofing worked well enough that I barely heard the street noise, even with my window cracked open.
What I really appreciated was the location – you're in Schöneberg, which gives you that authentic Berlin residential feel without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. There's a solid bakery about two blocks down that locals actually use (not just tourist traps), and you can walk to some great Turkish restaurants that don't show up in guidebooks. The U-Bahn connections are legitimately convenient – Kleistpark station is close enough that you don't need to plan your departure times around a long walk, but you're not dealing with the constant rumble of trains either. I ended up exploring different neighborhoods each day, and getting back to the hotel never felt like a trek.
Honestly, for a 3-star place, it punches above its weight class. The common areas have this relaxed energy where you might actually want to hang out with your laptop or chat with other travelers – not something I can say about most chain hotels. They've got decent coffee (not amazing, but better than the usual hotel lobby swill), and the breakfast spread was fresh enough that I didn't feel like I was eating cardboard. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it's not trying to be luxury, but it nails the basics and adds some personality on top. If you're looking for a place that feels more like staying in a friend's well-designed apartment than a corporate hotel room, and you don't mind being a bit outside the tourist epicenter, this spot delivers without breaking the bank.

Very good
Staff were very nice, accommodating, they let me lend an umbrella and nothing was ever a trouble for them. The location is right next to train station and bus stop not far away from anything central. The Bluetooth surround sound was a great additional feature with decent shower and lighted mirrors in the bathroom.
The pillows weren't great and bed could be comfier but was okay
Simple hotel at a convenient location
It’s close to the Südkreuz station. The room is quite spacious. The lobby has good apples as a treat for the guests
There is no kettle in the room and no way to get coffee to go in the lobby. It would be useful since there are no cafes around
Superb
Location is very good, in walking distance from Schöneberg Train Station.
It was a bit dusty in my room, but for 1 day stay it was OK.
Very good choice
The location of the hotel is very good. Very close to the public transport, which takes you to the city center in less than 15 minutes. Very clean and cozy, the staff of the reception is very frendly.
There is no water and coffee in the room, no minibar/fridge.

Barman was rather rude. Breakfast choices were a bit limited, but good quality.
