Hotel am Borsigturm
About
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel am Borsigturm? The name actually means something here – there's this impressive brick tower from the old Borsig locomotive factory right in the neighborhood, and honestly, it gives the whole area this cool industrial-meets-modern Berlin vibe that I wasn't expecting when I first rolled up.
The hotel itself sits in Tegel, which I'll be straight with you – it's not exactly Mitte or Kreuzberg. But here's the thing: that's actually what makes it work. You're away from the tourist chaos, staying in a proper Berlin neighborhood where people actually live and work. The S-Bahn connection is solid (Borsigwerke station is walkable), and you can get into the city center in about 20 minutes. Plus, and this matters more than you'd think, parking here isn't the nightmare it is in central Berlin – the hotel actually has proper spaces, which is basically a miracle in this city.
The rooms have that clean, no-nonsense German efficiency thing going on. Nothing fancy, but everything works exactly as it should – good WiFi, decent shower pressure, and beds that don't leave you wondering what you did to deserve back pain. I mean, it's a solid 4-star setup without trying to be something it's not. The breakfast situation is better than average too, with actual local breads and not just those sad hotel croissants you get everywhere else. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you're close enough to the action but far enough out that you're not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM.
The staff genuinely knows the area, which makes a difference when you need restaurant recommendations that aren't just the same touristy spots everyone suggests. They pointed me toward this Turkish place on Bernauer Straße that I never would've found otherwise. And if you're flying out of Tegel Airport – well, you used to be able to, anyway – this location was absolutely perfect. Now with Tegel closed, it's still convenient for getting around northern Berlin, especially if you're doing business in that part of the city or visiting family in the outer districts. The 8.4 rating feels about right – it's not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

Staff were friendly, location was perfect.
Nice room very much light big windows
Clean, comfortable beds. Spacious rooms, good breakfast
Thanks to its layout, this is a bright and spacious hotel with a good breakfast and a fairly comfortable room. At the end of September 2024, the nearby metro station and this part of the line were under renovation, if not for this, which slightly complicated the hotel’s accessibility
Parking available, really friendly staff, comfortable room - solid hotel overall
