Hotel AMO by AMANO Friedrichstraße
About
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel AMO by AMANO Friedrichstraße? It's got this really cool industrial-meets-cozy vibe that somehow works perfectly in that part of Berlin. I mean, when you first walk in, there's this exposed concrete and steel thing going on, but then they've softened it with these warm lighting fixtures and actually comfortable furniture – not the kind that looks good but feels like sitting on a park bench. The lobby has this buzzy energy, honestly more like a trendy café than your typical hotel reception area, and I'd often see locals just hanging out there with laptops, which is always a good sign.
The rooms are compact but smart about it – sort of what you'd expect from a 3-star in Berlin, but they've clearly thought about the details. The beds are surprisingly good (I'm picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms have this clean, minimalist design with decent water pressure, which you can't always count on in older Berlin buildings. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you're right in the thick of things on Friedrichstraße. The windows actually block out the street noise pretty well, and the AC – when you need it during those surprisingly hot Berlin summers – doesn't sound like a jet engine. Check-in was straightforward, no weird policies or hidden fees, and the front desk staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood when I asked about dinner spots.
Here's the thing about the location – you're literally a few minutes' walk from Friedrichstadt-Palast if you're into shows, and honestly, some of the best Vietnamese food in the city is just around the corner on Torstraße. The whole Mitte area is right there, but you're also close enough to walk to the more interesting parts of Prenzlauer Berg when you want to escape the tourist crowds. I found myself using the nearby U-Bahn station constantly – Oranienburger Tor is super close, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere without dealing with bus schedules. The rating of 8.3 feels about right to me; it's not trying to be luxury, but it nails what it is trying to do. There were a couple of minor things – the elevator is tiny and can be slow during busy times, and the breakfast (which costs extra) is decent but nothing special. But honestly, with all the great café options within a two-minute walk, you're better off exploring anyway. If you want something central, comfortable, and with a bit of character that doesn't cost a fortune, this place delivers exactly that.
Visitors often choose Berlin apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent German capital.

Had a great short stay. The location was amazing, the hotel was clean and completely accommodating. Couldn't ask for anything else.
Great location and staff. Very good room size and design.
Great Location
The breakfast was very good
Location, breakfast and I checked in before 15:00 🥂🎊🎉😬
very good location, clean, beautiful decoration
The room is small, but we knew this when booking and it was a nice spot for weekend sightseeing. The bed was comfortable, it was quite dark room, but we returned to it after a full day of sightseeing, so we didn't count on the natural light source anyway. Toiletries were provided in the bathroom and we had a coffee maker in the room which could also serve as a kettle to heat up tea water which was a convenient solution. The location was great, everywhere close even on foot. The ladies at reception were very friendly and helpful, it was always possible to ask anything as registration was open 24/7. There was also the option of buying breakfast in the hotel, which we did not use, but the very fact that it was not imposed in advance, but you could make a choice at any point was a very nice touch.
Hotel was better than expected to be totally honest. Rooms were very cosy, quiet, and modern. The location was exceptional, with the metro and trams right outside the hotel. Will 100% be staying here again.
Nice rooms & style. Very good breakfast
Gorgeous reception area and beautiful rooms with great coffee machine, water provided, a cool iPad beside the bed with a usb port. The restaurant Joseph in the hotel was fantastic!!! Would eat there again!
