Hotel Aster an der Messe
About
You know what struck me first about Hotel Aster an der Messe? It's one of those places that doesn't try to be something it's not – and honestly, that's refreshing in Berlin where so many hotels are either trying way too hard to be boutique-y or they're soulless chain properties. This is a solid three-star that sits right on Reichsstraße, which means you're actually in a proper Berlin neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. I mean, you've got the Messe (that's the trade fair grounds) practically around the corner, so if you're here on business, you'll appreciate not having to schlep across the city with your laptop bag. But here's the thing – even if you're not here for work, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is actually a pretty sweet spot to base yourself.
The building itself has that post-war Berlin vibe – clean lines, no nonsense, but not sterile. Inside, it's what I'd call comfortably predictable. The lobby smells faintly of coffee and that particular carpet cleaner scent that every mid-range European hotel seems to use (you know the one). Staff at check-in were efficient without being robotic – they actually knew the neighborhood when I asked about decent coffee nearby. Rooms are sized reasonably for Berlin standards, which is to say they're not huge but you're not bumping into furniture either. The beds are properly firm, and the bathrooms are small but functional with decent water pressure. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Reichsstraße isn't exactly a party street, so you can actually sleep without earplugs.
Here's where the location really pays off though. You're a quick S-Bahn ride from the city center, but you're also walking distance to some genuinely good local spots that most tourists never find. There's this Turkish bakery about three blocks down that does incredible börek in the mornings, and the whole area has that lived-in feeling where you see actual Berliners going about their daily business. Parking is available (for a fee, naturally – this is Berlin), and if you're planning to explore by public transport, the Messe Nord/ICC station is close enough that you won't be dragging your suitcase very far. The 7.1 rating makes sense to me – it's not going to wow you with luxury amenities or Instagram-worthy design, but it delivers exactly what it promises. Sometimes that's exactly what you need, especially if you're planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway.

in general good place ✨
clean rooms and comfortable location!
was scared during night because of some russians man from the hotel i guess :( kind of you can hear a lot through walls and door
Clean and spacious
My single room was spacious and had everything needed for a good stay. The check-in was automated and very easy. There is elevator for the upper floors. The bed and pillow were comfortable. The room was spotless clean. I had a view of the backyard. There is a convenience store and a lot of cafes nearby, close to the metro.
No soundproof, the walls are paperthin. The neighbours were snoring loudly all night and decided to watch tv early in the morning, it was as if they were in my room. I could hear their toilet and shower through the walls.
Very good
Big sunny room, comfortable beds and chairs. In a good location. Close to the metro station and grocery stores.
When we came into the room, there was a bit of a smell. The windows were hard to open and the blinds were too small to cover them so the light still peeked through. When we went to check out, the machine was broken and there was no staff at the reception desk.

An authenticity of Old Berlin! The hotel is situated in an old beautiful building in a quiet district. The room is very clean. You can check-in yourself with a check-in machine. It is very useful for travelers that arrive late. A U-bahn station is nearby, just in a 2-minute walk.
I was lacking a soundproof. I heard next-door guests.
