Hotel Novalis
About
You know, Hotel Novalis is one of those places that grows on you. First impression? Honestly, it's pretty understated – not the kind of spot that screams for attention with flashy lobbies or marble everything. But that's actually part of its charm, I think. The entrance has this quietly elegant vibe, sort of European in a way that doesn't feel forced or theme-park-ish.
What really surprised me was how thoughtfully everything's been put together. The rooms aren't huge (this is a solid 3-star, not a resort), but they've made smart use of the space. I mean, you're not going to get lost walking from the bed to the bathroom, but you won't feel cramped either. The lighting is what caught my attention – they've got these warm, ambient fixtures that make everything feel cozy rather than sterile. And honestly? The beds are way more comfortable than you'd expect for this price point. I'm picky about mattresses, and I slept really well here.
The staff deserves a mention too. Check-in was smooth – no rushing you through, but not overly chatty either. Just professional in that genuine way that makes you feel like they actually want you to have a good stay. I had a question about getting around the area (parking can be tricky if you don't know the neighborhood), and the front desk person gave me this insider tip about a spot two blocks over that locals use. Saved me probably twenty minutes of circling around looking for a space.
Here's the thing about the 7.3 rating – it feels about right, maybe even a touch conservative. You're not getting luxury here, but you're getting solid quality without any real disappointments. The shower pressure is decent, the WiFi actually works throughout the building (tested it in the lobby and up on the fourth floor), and the place is genuinely quiet at night. I was worried about street noise, but either the windows are well-insulated or they just picked a good location away from the main traffic flow.
What I really appreciated was the lack of nickel-and-diming. You know how some places charge you for everything from WiFi to using the lobby coffee? None of that here. There's a small business center if you need to print something, and they've got that European-style breakfast setup – nothing fancy, but fresh pastries, decent coffee, and you can actually sit and enjoy it without feeling rushed.
If I'm being completely honest, this isn't the kind of place you'd book for a romantic anniversary or anything like that. But for a comfortable, no-nonsense stay where you can focus on exploring rather than dealing with hotel drama? Hotel Novalis delivers exactly what it promises. It's the kind of spot I'd book again without hesitation – familiar, reliable, and just comfortable enough that you look forward to coming back after a long day out.

We were travelling off season. Location was quiet and in walking distance to the usual sights. Place felt almost empty. Very quiet. Clean.
