Leonardo Royal Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz
About
Look, I'll be honest - when I first walked into the Leonardo Royal Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz, I wasn't expecting much. The exterior is pretty standard modern hotel stuff, but once you get inside, it actually has this warm, contemporary vibe that feels way more welcoming than those sterile chain places you sometimes get stuck in.
The thing about this spot is the location is genuinely fantastic, and I mean that in a practical way, not just travel brochure speak. You're literally a few minutes' walk from Alexanderplatz - you know, that massive square with the TV Tower that every tourist ends up at anyway. But here's what's actually useful: there's a U-Bahn and S-Bahn station right there, so getting around Berlin is ridiculously easy. I found myself hopping on the U2 line constantly to get to Potsdamer Platz or over to the gallery district in Mitte. Plus, and this matters if you're planning to do some serious sightseeing, Museum Island is basically a pleasant 15-minute walk along the Spree - no need to figure out transit or deal with taxi apps.
The rooms themselves are solid - nothing that'll blow your mind, but they've got this clean, minimalist thing going on that actually works. Good blackout curtains (trust me, Berlin summer days are long), decent-sized bathrooms, and the beds are genuinely comfortable. I was there during a pretty busy week in September, and honestly, the noise levels were totally manageable even though you're in the heart of the city. The AC worked properly too, which... well, you'd be surprised how often that's not a given in European hotels. What I really appreciated was the little touches - there's actually enough outlets near the bed for your phone and whatever else, and the WiFi didn't make me want to throw my laptop out the window. The breakfast spread was better than expected too, with actual decent coffee and not just the usual continental hotel stuff. You've got local breads, proper German cold cuts, and they even had some Berlin honey from local beekeepers, which was a nice touch.
Staff-wise, everyone was helpful without being overly chatty, and most importantly, they actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a good local spot for dinner that wasn't tourist-trap pricing, the front desk guy pointed me toward some streets near Hackescher Markt that ended up being perfect. Check-in was smooth, and they let me store my luggage early since I'd arrived on one of those brutal early morning flights. The whole place just feels like they've figured out how to be a proper city hotel without trying too hard - you're close enough to everything that matters, the rooms work the way they should, and you're not paying through the nose for the privilege. For Berlin, especially if you want to actually explore the city rather than just stay in your hotel room, it hits that sweet spot of location and comfort without any unnecessary fuss.

A big hotel but everything was really nice. Very happy with the breakfast options! Definitely recommend :)
Breakfast was amazing! Really confy bed and good amanities in the room. Great position, really close to AlexanderPlatz.
A very comfortable bed and pillows! Good night's sleep each night. The restaurant Vitruv was grear, delicious food. Early check-in was of great value and an hour later check-out was also much needed and thank you reception for making it possible!
Perfect location, very easy to reach the city attractions; safe neighbourhood, not fancy but well served by public transport, small family owned cafes, decent restaurants and small supermarket within walking distance.. Comfortable and spacious room and bathroom. Liked that we could easily order room service from the room’s tablet. Generous portions and good food, used twice for dinner. Staff courteous all round.
Staff were lovely and very welcoming, hotel was very clean and comfy beds. Bar had a lovely atmosphere and good selection of drinks (beers, wine, soft drinks, big cocktail menu) all reasonably priced. 2 lovely restaurants just around the corner aswell (one steakhouse, one italian)
