Mitte Loft group & family friendly, 150m2, 2BRs, 2Bathrooms

Look, I've stayed in a lot of Berlin apartments over the years, but this Pankow spot genuinely surprised me. The Mitte Loft is one of those places that looks decent in photos but actually delivers more than you expect – and honestly, that's rare these days. You get an entire building backyard plus two full floors, which means you're basically living like a local for however long you're there.

The space itself is properly generous at 150 square meters, and I mean actually spacious, not that cramped "cozy" nonsense you usually find. Two real bedrooms, two full bathrooms (thank god, because traveling with multiple couples or families can get awkward fast), plus a living area where you can actually spread out. The dining room is where our group ended up hanging out most evenings – there's something about having a proper table that makes you want to cook real meals instead of surviving on döner and currywurst. Though honestly, the Turkish place around the corner from Straßburger Straße is worth trying at least once.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you're still well-connected to central Berlin. Pankow isn't as touristy as Mitte proper, which means you'll see actual Berliners going about their lives – kids heading to school, people walking their dogs, that sort of authentic neighborhood feel. The S-Bahn connections are solid (you'll want to grab a weekly transport pass), and you can get to Museum Island or Alexanderplatz without too much hassle. But here's the thing – after a day of sightseeing, coming back to this area feels like coming home rather than returning to some sterile hotel corridor.

The 9.7 rating isn't inflated, which I was skeptical about initially. Check-in was straightforward, the place was genuinely clean (I mean properly clean, not just surface-level), and everything worked as promised. You know how sometimes vacation rentals have that one broken thing nobody mentions? Well, we didn't run into any of those annoying surprises. The building itself has character – it's got that solid German construction feel without being stuffy or overly modernized.

I'd definitely recommend this for groups who want space to breathe and don't need to be right in the thick of tourist central. If you're traveling with kids or just want the option to cook breakfast instead of hunting for open cafés, this works really well. Fair warning though – if you're the type who needs hotel concierge service or wants everything within walking distance, you might prefer something more central. But for the price point and the amount of space you get, especially if you're splitting costs among several people, it's honestly hard to beat.
