Puschkin Rooms
About
You know what? I almost walked right past Puschkin Rooms the first time I tried to find it. It's one of those places that doesn't scream "hotel" from the street – more like you're stepping into someone's thoughtfully renovated apartment building. And honestly, that's exactly what makes it work.
The whole vibe here is refreshingly unpretentious for a place that clearly knows what it's doing. I mean, sure, it's a 3-star property, but whoever's running this place actually gets what travelers want. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that you don't usually find – like someone took the time to think about where you'd actually want to plug in your phone (next to the bed, imagine that) and made sure the lighting doesn't make you look like you're in a interrogation room. The floors have this slight creak that might bug some people, but I found it oddly charming. Reminded me I was staying somewhere with actual character instead of another cookie-cutter chain.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to anticipate things without being hovering. Check-in was smooth – no unnecessary upselling or lengthy explanations of obvious things. They just handed over the key and mentioned a couple of genuinely useful local spots worth checking out. The kind of recommendations that made me think they actually live in this neighborhood instead of just working here. Breakfast wasn't anything fancy, but it was proper – good coffee, fresh bread, and they didn't run out of everything by 9 AM like some places do. The common areas stay pretty quiet, even when the place is full, which tells you something about the type of guests this place attracts. You'll get a good night's sleep here, basically.
Look, Puschkin Rooms isn't trying to be something it's not, and that 8.1 rating makes perfect sense once you've stayed here. It's the kind of place where everything just... works. The shower has decent water pressure, the Wi-Fi doesn't cut out every five minutes, and you're not constantly wondering if you made the right booking choice. If you're looking for a spa or a rooftop pool, you're in the wrong place. But if you want somewhere comfortable and genuine to crash while you explore the city – somewhere that feels more like staying with a well-organized friend than checking into a hotel – this hits the spot perfectly.

Very helpful staff, cheap, big rooms. Clean and tidy
The accommodation was very good, especially considering the price. We were concerned with all the comments about bad bugs, drug addicts in the area and so on, but our experience was very good. The accommodation was very clean, had everything we needed, we stayed in an apartment with 8 rooms and 3 bathrooms. The employee that received us didn't seem to speak English, but we were able to communicate quite easily. The neighbourhood is indeed a little bit strange, we could see a couple of drug addicts in the street and some prostitution but no one approached us and we didn't feel unsafe at any point. It is also well connected by bus and metro to the city center in a short trip.
