About this stay

About

You know what? I wasn't expecting much from another hotel chain property in Berlin, but the Riu Plaza actually surprised me. It's one of those places that gets the basics really right without trying too hard to be something it's not. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe – sort of minimalist but not cold, if that makes sense. When I walked in around 3 PM on a Tuesday, check-in was smooth and the staff actually seemed to care about making sure I had what I needed.

The location is honestly pretty solid for exploring the city. You're not right in the thick of Mitte's tourist chaos, which I actually appreciated after a long day of sightseeing. It's easy enough to hop on the U-Bahn and get wherever you need to go, but when you come back at night, the neighborhood around the hotel is quiet – I mean genuinely quiet, not just "we have soundproof windows" quiet. The rooms are what you'd expect from a 4-star place, nothing fancy but everything works. The bed was actually comfortable (I'm picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure, which... well, if you've stayed in enough European hotels, you know that's not always a given.

What really won me over was how the place feels once you settle in. The breakfast setup is efficient without feeling rushed – they've got local breads and proper coffee, plus the usual international stuff if you're not feeling adventurous. I spent a couple mornings just sitting by the windows watching Berlin wake up, which sounds cheesy but was actually pretty nice. The gym is small but has the equipment that matters, and honestly, after walking 15,000 steps around Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg, I just needed a decent treadmill anyway. The whole place has this understated competence to it – like they know exactly what business travelers and tourists actually want versus what hotel marketing departments think they want. At an 8.3 rating, it's clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get it. It's not going to be the highlight of your Berlin trip, but it's not going to disappoint you either, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.
