The Circus Hotel
About
Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect from a place called The Circus Hotel – I mean, that name could go either way, right? But walking into this 4-star spot, you immediately get why they chose it. There's this playful, almost theatrical energy that runs through everything without being cheesy about it. The lobby has these vintage circus posters mixed with modern art, and instead of feeling gimmicky, it actually works. You know what struck me most? The lighting – they've got this warm, amber glow throughout that makes everything feel intimate, even when the place is busy. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there too, which you can always tell within the first five minutes of checking in.
What really sets this place apart is how they've balanced the quirky theme with actual comfort. The rooms are spacious (thank god, because you know how cramped some boutique places can be), and while there are circus-inspired touches – think vintage carnival mirrors and bold striped textiles – they didn't go overboard. The beds are seriously comfortable, and I'm someone who's pretty picky about that. The bathrooms are modern with good water pressure, which honestly matters more than any themed decoration when you're actually staying somewhere. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being in what seems like a pretty active area. The windows must be well-insulated because I barely heard any street noise, and that's coming from someone who usually packs earplugs for every trip.
The common areas are where this hotel really shines though. There's this lounge area that feels like a cross between a gentleman's club and a carnival funhouse – I know that sounds weird, but it works. People actually hang out there instead of just rushing through to their rooms, and the bar serves these creative cocktails that play into the theme without being ridiculous about it. I spent a good hour there one evening just people-watching and honestly enjoyed it more than going out. With an 8.9 rating, you'd expect it to be solid, but this place exceeds that – it has personality, which is something you can't fake. Sure, it might not be for everyone (if you prefer ultra-minimalist or traditional luxury, this probably isn't your vibe), but if you want somewhere memorable that doesn't sacrifice comfort for character, The Circus Hotel actually delivers on both fronts.
