I spent one evening just wandering down toward Kollwitzplatz and stumbled into this amazing little wine bar that I never would have found if I'd been staying in Mitte with all the other tourists. The building itself is quiet – well, as quiet as Berlin gets – though you'll hear the occasional tram rumbling by, which I actually found kind of charming after a day or two.

The units themselves feel lived-in in the best way possible. Full kitchens that actually work (I made breakfast most mornings), decent Wi-Fi that didn't cut out during video calls, and bathrooms that are small but functional – very Berlin apartment authentic, if you know what I mean. Check-in was straightforward, though make sure you've got the host's contact info handy since it's not like walking into a hotel lobby. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you're driving, but honestly, you don't need a car in this part of town anyway.

I'd say this place works best if you want to feel like you're actually living in Berlin for a few days rather than just visiting it.
