The Westin Grand Berlin
About
You know what struck me first about The Westin Grand Berlin? It's this massive, imposing building that somehow manages to feel welcoming the moment you step inside. I mean, we're talking about a hotel that takes up an entire city block - it's actually made up of two historic buildings connected together, which explains why the layout can feel a bit like a maze at first. But honestly, that's part of its charm. The lobby has this old-world grandeur thing going on, with these soaring ceilings and marble everywhere, yet it never feels stuffy or pretentious. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions like you get at some five-star places.
What really sets this place apart is how it sits right in the heart of Berlin's cultural district. You're literally a five-minute walk from Unter den Linden, and I actually stumbled upon the Brandenburg Gate during my morning coffee run - it's that close to everything that matters. The rooms themselves are spacious by European standards (which, let's be honest, isn't always saying much), but here you can actually open your suitcase without rearranging the furniture. The beds are exactly what you'd expect from Westin - those heavenly beds live up to the hype, especially after a day of pounding the pavement around the city. One small thing though: the air conditioning can be a bit temperamental, and in summer that might bug you. The bathrooms are properly luxurious with those deep soaking tubs, and the water pressure is fantastic, which you don't always get in older European hotels.
The breakfast situation deserves a mention - it's this sprawling buffet setup that goes way beyond your typical hotel continental spread. I'm talking fresh bread that's actually baked on-site (you can smell it in the elevators in the morning), proper German cold cuts, and coffee that doesn't taste like it's been sitting around since yesterday. The restaurant gets pretty packed around 8:30 AM with business travelers, so if you're not in a rush, aim for earlier or later. What I really appreciated was how quiet the place stays despite being right in the city center - the windows do their job, and you're not dealing with street noise all night. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me; it's not quite perfect (the Wi-Fi can be spotty in some rooms, and parking is expensive even by Berlin standards), but it nails the important stuff. If you want to be in the thick of things without sacrificing comfort, and you don't mind paying for that privilege, this place delivers.
Early hotels booking in Berlin is essential during major events like the Berlinale Film Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city's renowned nightlife and cultural scene.

Breakfest was always perfect arranged, we stay for 4 nights, and the staff was so nice.
I had a great experience, it was only one night but it was excellent
It’s our 5th stay at this hotel. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Berlin. Beautifully appointed hotel. A wonderful foyer and bar area under a huge atrium - very special. Great location and excellent restaurants minutes away.
The hotel is beautiful and the staff were friendly. The gym was great! Totally exceeded my expectations. Location is also great, on top of a metro and walking distance from train station and popular attractions like Museum island and the Brandenburg gate
