Waldhotel am See Berlin-Schmöckwitz
About
You know what struck me first about Waldhotel am See? The name literally means "Forest Hotel by the Lake" and honestly, they weren't kidding around. This place sits right on the edge of Schmöckwitz in what feels like Berlin's secret backyard – I mean, you're still technically in the city, but you'd never know it from the pine trees and actual shoreline outside your window.
The thing about this spot is that most tourists have no clue Schmöckwitz even exists. It's way out in the southeastern corner where Berliners escape when they want to pretend they live somewhere with actual nature. The hotel itself is pretty straightforward – think solid 3-star comfort without any fancy pretenses. My room was clean and functional (though the WiFi gets a bit sketchy during peak hours, just so you know). What really sells it is stepping outside and realizing you can walk straight down to Zeuthener See in about two minutes. The lake's not huge, but it's surprisingly clear for being this close to a major city, and there's actually a decent little beach area where locals bring their kids during summer.
I'll be honest – the 7.1 rating makes sense because this isn't luxury hospitality, but the staff genuinely seems to care about the place. The woman at reception knew exactly which S-Bahn connections would get me back to Mitte fastest (take the S8 to Treptower Park, then switch – saves you like 15 minutes). Breakfast was that typical German spread with decent coffee and way too many types of cold cuts, but they had local honey which was actually pretty fantastic. The restaurant does this fish dish with whatever they're catching locally, and while I'm usually skeptical about hotel food, it was surprisingly good. Parking's free, which is almost shocking if you're used to Berlin proper, and the whole area gets refreshingly quiet after dark – just some gentle lapping from the lake and maybe a night bird or two. If you're looking to decompress from the city chaos but still want to be able to reach Alexanderplatz in under an hour, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Waldhotel am See is a lovely spot, situated in woods and overlooking the lake. It was beautiful, quiet and peaceful.
Good breakfast, close to city, but feels like we were in countryside, close to P+R, close to beach
I’m the middle of the forest with a beautiful lake view
Located about a 15 minute walk (bus available) from the end of the tram 68 route, in peaceful woodland with lake frontage. Not the best location if you want to be in central Berlin every day but great if you want to visit occasionally or just enjoy the countryside.
We were really just looking for a hotel near the Berlin airport. But what a wonderful surprise with the WaldHotel am See! It was absolutely in the wilderness. And then it was a complete lakeside hotel. We loved the setting. The breakfast was wonderful. We wished that we could have stayed longer, to enjoy the lake activities.
Cheap accommodation close to Berlin. Restaurant with small choice but tasty good :-)
The location is really good and quite.if you reach in night you may find little dark but once you enter it is a classy property. Rooms where neat and clean.breakfast was nice.
We paid very little for 2 nights (including breakfast for two it was around 130 Euros) and what you see on booking.com is pretty much exactly what you get! When we got there we were told we got an upgrade with no extra charge: Apparently we were booked to stay in the guest house which is very basic so they upgraded us to one of the hotel rooms. It was still basic but clean and comfortable none the less! Staff was very friendly and breakfast was absolutely okay. The location is lovely and I imagine during the summer there is plenty to do! Value for money? Perfect!
