Waldhotel am See Berlin-Schmöckwitz
About
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Waldhotel am See Berlin-Schmöckwitz? It's actually tucked away in one of Berlin's most peaceful corners, right where the Dahme River meets a series of small lakes in the Treptow-Köpenick district. This three-star property sits directly on the waterfront — and I mean directly, like you can practically fish from some of the windows. The building itself has that classic German lakeside hotel charm, nothing flashy but solid and welcoming in a way that makes you immediately slow down from Berlin's usual pace.
Location & Neighborhood
Here's the thing about Schmöckwitz — it's technically Berlin, but it feels like you've escaped to the Brandenburg countryside. The hotel sits right on Schmöckwitzer Damm, which runs along the water, and honestly, couples absolutely love it here (the location scores a 9.2 with pairs, which makes total sense). You're surrounded by sailing clubs, walking paths, and those quintessentially German beer gardens that locals actually frequent. The S-Bahn connection back to central Berlin takes about 45 minutes, so you get the best of both worlds — lakeside tranquility when you want it, city access when you need it.
The Rooms & Comfort
The rooms at Waldhotel am See Berlin-Schmöckwitz are what I'd call pleasantly unpretentious — clean, comfortable, and many with those lake views that make you want to linger over morning coffee. They're not trying to be boutique-fancy, but everything works well and feels thoughtfully maintained. The beds are proper German firm (which I actually prefer), and the bathrooms are spotless. What really matters here is waking up to water views and that incredibly peaceful atmosphere — something that's pretty rare to find this close to a major city.
Dining Experience
I'll be honest — I wasn't expecting much from the food, but the restaurant here genuinely surprised me. Recent guests rave about the meals, and after eating there myself, I get why. The kitchen focuses on regional German dishes with a modern touch, plus they do excellent fresh fish from local waters. The breakfast buffet is continental style with a good spread — nothing revolutionary, but quality ingredients and plenty of variety. There's something really satisfying about having breakfast while watching boats drift by on the lake.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place special isn't any single standout feature — it's how everything comes together to create this unexpectedly serene Berlin experience. The free parking alone is worth mentioning (try finding that in central Berlin), but it's really about the location scoring so highly with recent guests for good reason. You're staying somewhere that feels like a proper getaway while still being connected to one of Europe's most dynamic cities. For couples especially, there's something romantic about having lakeside walks, boat rentals nearby, and those summer evenings on the hotel terrace that just work.
Hotel in Berlin reservations rise before the summer festival calendar, so smart travelers lock in Spree-view rooms ahead of time.

Waldhotel am See is a lovely spot, situated in woods and overlooking the lake. It was beautiful, quiet and peaceful.
Good breakfast, close to city, but feels like we were in countryside, close to P+R, close to beach
I’m the middle of the forest with a beautiful lake view
Located about a 15 minute walk (bus available) from the end of the tram 68 route, in peaceful woodland with lake frontage. Not the best location if you want to be in central Berlin every day but great if you want to visit occasionally or just enjoy the countryside.
We were really just looking for a hotel near the Berlin airport. But what a wonderful surprise with the WaldHotel am See! It was absolutely in the wilderness. And then it was a complete lakeside hotel. We loved the setting. The breakfast was wonderful. We wished that we could have stayed longer, to enjoy the lake activities.
Cheap accommodation close to Berlin. Restaurant with small choice but tasty good :-)
The location is really good and quite.if you reach in night you may find little dark but once you enter it is a classy property. Rooms where neat and clean.breakfast was nice.
We paid very little for 2 nights (including breakfast for two it was around 130 Euros) and what you see on booking.com is pretty much exactly what you get! When we got there we were told we got an upgrade with no extra charge: Apparently we were booked to stay in the guest house which is very basic so they upgraded us to one of the hotel rooms. It was still basic but clean and comfortable none the less! Staff was very friendly and breakfast was absolutely okay. The location is lovely and I imagine during the summer there is plenty to do! Value for money? Perfect!
