4 Sterne Souterrain Apartment Alt-Mariendorf
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first heard "souterrain apartment," I pictured some dungeon-like basement situation in Alt-Mariendorf. But this 4-star gem actually surprised me in the best way possible. The space feels more like a stylish garden-level retreat than your typical below-ground accommodation, and honestly, that 9.4 rating makes total sense once you step inside.
What really struck me was how thoughtfully designed everything is. The windows are positioned perfectly to let in natural light (which, let's face it, is always the concern with lower-level places), and there's this surprisingly airy feel throughout. The apartment itself has that solid German attention to detail – you know, the kind where every appliance actually works and the shower has proper water pressure. I mean, the kitchen setup alone impressed me more than most hotel rooms I've stayed in. You've got real counter space, a full-size fridge, and cookware that doesn't look like it survived three decades of abuse.
Alt-Mariendorf isn't exactly the neighborhood tourists flock to, but that's actually part of its charm. It's proper residential Berlin – the kind of area where you'll find locals walking their dogs at 7 AM and corner bakeries that have been family-run for generations. The S-Bahn connection is solid (Mariendorf station gets you into central Berlin without too much fuss), and there's something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels authentically local rather than tourist-central. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who's driven in Berlin will tell you is basically a small miracle. The building itself is quiet – I'm talking actually quiet, not "hotel quiet" where you still hear every conversation in the hallway. Maybe it's the souterrain location working in your favor, but I slept better here than I have in plenty of fancy city center hotels. The whole setup just works, especially if you're planning to stay more than a night or two and want space to actually spread out and live a bit.

Andrew was friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean and the kitchen had all the basics. Easy access to public transportation made sightseeing a lot easier.
Great room, very spacious. Andrew is a great host.
An oasis of green tranquility in the midst of the hurry burly of a major city.
Andrew made us feel at home from the beginning by welcoming us 😊 every thing was great. Thank you so much
The host Andrew was very kind and helpful. Would stay here again if i was in the area. The location was very quiet and got a good rest, 10 minute walk to restaurants and bars.
Good and quiet location as a startingpoint for bicycle touring. Owner has kindly made his garage available for storing our bikes. Well equipped kitchen for preparing own meals. Bottle of water provided on arrival. Owner was not home when we stayed but provided clear information for check in and kept in contact to check if we needed anything. Communication via WhatsApp was quick and very friendly.
It is very cozy, calm place with very helpful ovner. I spent few days in Berlin because of my work and I am glad that I chosed this place.
A comfortable and nicely appointed apartment in a relaxed, leafy part of town. Even for us oldies (late-60s) just a pleasant leisurely quarter hour stroll to the u-bahn (U6), direct, fast, frequent line to the city centre (buses to and from the airport from there too). Loved the beautiful Britzer Garten, also a short walk away. Excellent communication with the owner - thanks Andrew!
Friendly
The owner, Andrew was very kind & helpful. He was so attentive & keen to ensure I was comfortable. It's a large apartment for one person which gave me all the space I needed to work & also relax.
