Arte Luise Kunsthotel
About
Honestly, when you first walk into Arte Luise Kunsthotel, you might do a double-take – and that's exactly the point. This isn't your typical Berlin hotel where every room looks identical. Each of the 50 rooms here was designed by a different artist, so you could end up sleeping in anything from a minimalist paradise to something that looks like it belongs in a fever dream. I mean, where else are you going to find a hotel where the walls might be covered in sheet music or your bathroom door is actually a work of conceptual art?
The location on Luisenstraße is pretty brilliant, actually. You're right in Mitte, which sounds touristy until you realize you can walk to Museum Island in about eight minutes, but you're tucked away on a quieter street that doesn't get the constant stream of tour groups. The building itself has this lovely old Berlin character – high ceilings, creaky wooden floors that somehow add charm instead of annoyance, and these massive windows that let in tons of light. You know what I love about staying here? You'll stumble out in the morning and there's this great little bakery just around the corner on Friedrichstraße, plus you're close enough to Hackescher Markt that you can actually walk there instead of dealing with the U-Bahn if the weather's decent.
Now, let's be real about what you're getting – this is a 3-star place with an artistic soul, not a luxury resort. The rooms can be tiny (especially if you're used to American hotel standards), and depending on which artist designed your space, you might find yourself sleeping under a ceiling covered in mirrors or surrounded by abstract paintings that either inspire you or keep you awake. The breakfast is solid but nothing fancy, though they do this thing with fresh bread that actually makes getting up early worth it. What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail – even the hallways feel like you're walking through a gallery, and the staff genuinely seems to care about the artistic vision of the place rather than just going through hotel motions. Check-in can be a bit slow because they'll actually tell you about your room's artist and the concept behind the design, which is either delightful or mildly annoying depending on how tired you are from traveling. The whole experience feels very Berlin to me – unpretentious but thoughtful, a little quirky without trying too hard, and definitely memorable in ways that generic hotels just aren't.
Visitors often choose Berlin apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent German capital.

Noise from train. No fridge in room
Great location, great rooms, lovely stay.
The themed rooms were really cool. Location was great. There was very little noise despite being beside the train.
We arrived late and had problems checking in. We were able to get assistance by phone which was OK but it took a while. It would be better to have a night receptionist.
great central location
nice room in towards a beautiful courtyard

Very good
Amazing building with much history. We had a room facing the street we worried about the noise, but the train didn't bother us at all.
Nothing worth noting. Curtains could have done a better job of blocking the light.
Very good
Great budget hotel close to all transport links
Location and the garden area is great to sit in and watch all the birds.
Very good
Beautiful decorated room with a nice view to a green garden
Budget-friendly quirky hotel close to station
Very quirky bedroom decor and a beautiful traditional building with wooden staircase detail - it seemed appropriately unusual for a stay in Berlin. Everything was very clean - and though we shared a bathroom, it was kept spotless and always stocked with hand-wash and loo roll. The room was large, with an extra single bed, light and airy with plenty of storage, bedside tables and reading lights. The beds were firm and comfortable Our room had working radiators for colder weather and a fan for warmer months. The location of the hotel was perfect for our interrailing trip, being 12 minutes from the station and a similar distance to the river, Brandenburg Gate etc. There was a Lidl close by, Domino's Pizzas and a few other eateries. We had a very pleasant 3 day stay here.
You could certainly hear the trains with the windows open but when we closed the windows at night, it was more of a background noise and didn't bother us at all. Earplugs are provided. I expect the noise would bother some people. There was no kettle in the room but coffee was available to purchase in the lobby. There is no TV - not a problem for us, but some people might have expected one. We occasionally smelled weed in the corridors leading to our bedroom. Whilst the shared bathroom and showers were clean, we did have to wait to use the loo occasionally. 2 unisex loos might be better than a male and female set-up.
