City-Apartment Zille
About
You know what caught me off guard about City-Apartment Zille? It's actually tucked into this perfectly imperfect stretch of Grünberger Straße where the real Berlin happens. I mean, you're not in some sanitized tourist bubble here – there's a kebab shop that stays open until 3am downstairs (honestly, a blessing after a night out), and the U-Bahn rumbles by just distant enough that you notice it but it won't keep you up. The building itself has that classic Berlin apartment vibe – thick walls, high ceilings, and windows that actually open wide, which feels revolutionary if you're used to sealed hotel rooms.
The thing is, calling this place a "hotel" doesn't quite capture it. It's more like staying in a friend's really well-put-together apartment, except your friend has excellent taste and actually remembers to stock decent coffee. The rooms – well, they're proper apartments really – have kitchens you'd actually want to cook in, not those sad hotel kitchenettes with a mini-fridge and prayers. I ended up making breakfast most mornings because there's a fantastic little market on Boxhagener Platz (maybe a seven-minute walk?) where the bread situation is frankly ridiculous in the best way. The staff gets this too – they're not hovering with formal service, but they know their neighborhood. Ask them about the Sunday flea market or where to grab a decent späti beer, and you'll get the real scoop.
Location-wise, you're in Friedrichshain proper, which means you can walk to some of the city's best bars and still stumble home safely. The East Side Gallery is close enough for an afternoon stroll, but you're far enough from the tourist crush that your mornings feel peaceful. Honestly, the 8.4 rating makes sense – it's not trying to be the fanciest place in Berlin, but it nails what it's going for. The wifi actually works (shocking, I know), the shower pressure is solid, and there's something satisfying about having space to spread out your stuff instead of living out of a suitcase. Plus, and this matters more than you'd think, the neighborhood feels safe at all hours without being boring. You'll hear real life happening outside – people heading to work, kids playing in the courtyard, the occasional late-night conversation – but it's the good kind of urban soundtrack, not chaos.

Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to others.
Spacious and well-equipped
A key is required to enter and exit
Super convenient place
So convenient! Minutes walk to 2 train stations, minimarts everywhere, restaurants surrounding it. Great dining area, although there is no real lounge space. Main room is huge and overall plenty of space for everyone.
The kitchen is at the very back so you can’t prep food and talk to others, but I think this is typical of many older homes
Very good

Fabulous spacious central apartment. Clean and very well equipped
Nothing
Passable
the apartment was really clean and the location was great
The noise is terrible. Apartment would also need a little renovation, e.g. shower, kitchen window
Effortless and relaxing!
The location was great, not too central but also surrounded by restaurants and shops. A perfect neighbourhood to return to after exploring the city. There was also a main metro station a 5 minute walk away. There was a big Lidl and Aldi less than a 10 minute walk away.
