DR Apartments Boxhagener Kiez
About
Look, I've stayed in a lot of Berlin apartments over the years, and DR Apartments on Boxhagener Straße really gets it right. The moment you walk into one of these places, you can tell someone actually thought about how travelers live – not just where they sleep. The apartments feel like, well, actual apartments where people live, not those sterile hotel-apartment hybrids that somehow manage to feel both impersonal and cramped at the same time.
What really sold me on this place is the location, honestly. Boxhagener Kiez is one of those neighborhoods that locals will tell you about in hushed tones because they don't want it getting too touristy (though that ship has probably sailed). You're literally a three-minute walk from Simon-Dach-Straße where all the bars are, but far enough away that you won't hear drunk twenty-somethings singing at 3 AM – I mean, not every night anyway. The Sunday flea market at Boxhagener Platz is right there, and if you time it right, you can grab coffee and pastries from the little Turkish bakery on the corner before the market crowds hit. There's this whole organic grocery situation happening nearby too, which sounds pretentious but is actually super convenient when you want to cook instead of eating döner for the fourth day straight.
The apartments themselves are solid – proper kitchens with everything you need, not just a mini-fridge and two burner situation. I actually cooked dinner a couple times, which I never do when traveling, but the setup made it feel natural. The Wi-Fi doesn't cut out every time someone uses the microwave, the shower pressure is decent (this matters more than people think), and honestly, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn't wake up feeling like I'd been wrestling with a pretzel all night. You know what impressed me most though? The little details – proper hangers in the closets, enough outlets near the bed, blackout curtains that actually block light. It's like they asked actual guests what annoyed them and then fixed those things. The building itself has character without being one of those "charming" places where nothing works properly. Getting to the U-Bahn is easy – Frankfurter Tor is maybe a seven-minute walk, and from there you can get anywhere in the city without too much hassle. Just don't expect the neighborhood to be quiet on weekend nights, but that's part of the charm of staying in Friedrichshain rather than some business district where everything shuts down at 9 PM.
To book a hotel in Berlin during the famous Berlin International Film Festival season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts culture enthusiasts and history lovers from around the world.

a good pied-à-terre in Berlin
Very good location. The host was very kind and responseful. The equipment was complete and the kitchen was modern and completely equiped.
When I booked, I understood that there were one room and one living room. Indeed, the sofa bed was supposely in the living room, whereas the three other beds in the room. It appears that there is only one (big) living room.
Great apartment in a great location.
Great apartment with all the facilities and in a great location. The manager was very nice and careful. Check in/out system was very practical. We will definetly choose this place again.
The grill on the bed was a bit broken and made it a bit uncomfortable.
Very good
Clean and neat. Full equipped. The area is full of restaurants and bars. Street parking is expensive, be prepared for using a parking lot or move the car to one of the free parking locations, like 6 blocks away.
Good
Comfortable room with good WiFi
Location is a bit strange for small kids; especially coming back at night.
disturbed by dislocated ankle
the conditions in the bathroom are very dangerous. All of us ( 4 people) slipped and almost broke a leg, my son dislocated his ankle. The floor is very slippery the entrance to the bath inconvenient.
