Garner Hotel Berlin – Mitte by IHG
About
You know what caught me off guard about the Garner Hotel Berlin? It's actually tucked away on Zimmerstraße in a way that feels both central and surprisingly quiet – I mean, you're literally a few minutes' walk from Potsdamer Platz, but the street itself doesn't have that constant tourist buzz. The building has this modern industrial vibe that works really well in Mitte, honestly. When I first walked in, the lobby felt refreshingly uncluttered compared to some of the overly designed places you see around Berlin these days. The IHG backing shows in subtle ways – everything just works the way it should, from the key cards to the WiFi, which sounds basic but you'd be surprised how many boutique places mess up the fundamentals.
The rooms have this clean, minimalist German aesthetic going on, but not in a cold way – more like someone actually thought about what you need when you're jet-lagged and just want things to make sense. The windows are properly soundproofed (crucial on this side of town), and I appreciated that they didn't go overboard with quirky design elements that look Instagram-ready but are annoying to live with for a few days. What really sold me on the location, though, is how walkable everything is from here. You can hit Museum Island in about fifteen minutes on foot, or duck into that maze of galleries and cafes around Hackescher Markt without dealing with the U-Bahn. The Friedrichstadt-Palast is practically around the corner if you're into that scene, and there's this excellent Vietnamese place on the next block that the front desk guy recommended – honestly better than the hotel restaurant, though don't tell them I said that.
The 8.7 rating makes total sense when you factor in the neighborhood knowledge the staff actually has. They're not just handing out generic tourist maps; they seem to know which S-Bahn lines are running late and where to grab decent coffee at 7 AM (spoiler: not the lobby, but there's a spot two blocks down that opens early). Parking is... well, it's Berlin, so don't expect miracles, but they do have arrangements with a nearby garage. The whole experience feels like staying somewhere designed by people who've actually traveled, not just hospitality school graduates following a manual. It's not trying to be the coolest hotel in Berlin – there are flashier options if that's your thing – but for the price point and location, especially if you want to actually explore Mitte without feeling like you're staying in a tourist bubble, it hits that sweet spot between professional service and genuine local insight.

Very comfortable bed and big room, nice staff and very good location. Easy and the fastest checkin
The doors were slamming in all of the rooms, so each morning we were waken up by it. We could hear every door slamming on our floor. No kettle in the room, could have used it after getting rained down by Berlin weather

Very good
Really lovely hotel. The bed was the comfiest I have stayed in at a hotel. Central location which was perfect.
The breakfast wasn’t great if you are a meat eater. My partner struggled to find anything. But they had a yoghurt station with lots of toppings which I found was lovely.
Nice hotel in the center area of Berlin
It is a nice hotel very well located next to Checkpoint Charlie and just a few steps from the metro. There are restaurants and shops around the hotel within walking distance. If you like walking it is not far from other main Berlin attractions like Brandenburg Gate or the Parliament. The breakfast is good also with many options to choose from.
