Goldmarie
About
You know what? I wasn't expecting much from Goldmarie when I first walked up to it on Warschauerstr – honestly, the street can feel a bit gritty at first glance, especially if you're coming from the touristy parts of Berlin. But here's the thing about Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg: it's got this authentic edge that grows on you, and this little 3-star hotel actually captures that vibe perfectly.
The location is actually pretty brilliant once you get your bearings. I mean, you're literally a few minutes' walk from the East Side Gallery (that famous stretch of the Berlin Wall), and the whole area has this cool industrial-meets-artistic thing going on. Warschauer Straße station is right there, so getting around the city is dead easy – though fair warning, it can get pretty lively on weekend nights with all the club-goers heading to the legendary spots along the Spree. The hotel itself sits in this sweet spot where you feel connected to Berlin's creative pulse without being smack in the middle of tourist central.
What I really liked about Goldmarie was how unpretentious it felt. The staff seemed genuinely local (not just hospitality robots), and they gave me solid recommendations for places that weren't in every guidebook. The rooms are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but honestly, when you're paying 3-star prices in Berlin, you're not expecting marble bathrooms. What you get is decent WiFi, comfortable beds, and windows that actually open (which is more than I can say for some chain hotels). The breakfast was surprisingly good too – proper German bread, not the sad continental stuff you sometimes get. I will say the rooms facing the street can pick up some traffic noise, but that's pretty much par for the course in this part of town. If you're a light sleeper, maybe ask for something facing the courtyard.
The neighborhood really makes this place shine though. There's this great little café called Silo Coffee just around the corner that does proper flat whites, and if you walk five minutes toward the river, you hit this amazing Sunday flea market at RAW-Gelände – it's where actual Berliners go, not just tourists buying "I ❤️ Berlin" t-shirts. Plus, you're perfectly positioned to explore both the edgier Friedrichshain side and the more established Kreuzberg scene.
Look, Goldmarie isn't going to win any design awards, and that 7.2 rating probably reflects some guests expecting more polish than a neighborhood hotel delivers. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels genuinely connected to Berlin's creative spirit – where you can walk to incredible street art, stumble upon underground music venues, and grab late-night döner from places locals actually eat – this is your spot. It's the kind of place where you end up having better stories than if you'd stayed somewhere twice the price in Mitte.

Great!
Great location
Needs air conditioning and better noice-canceling windows on the street side.
Clean, bright and comfortable stay.
Great location and easy to find.
A bit noisy, because it’s on a main road but I brought earplugs so slept soundly. Really comfy beds
Overall, good option
The location
Squeeky floors and no elevator.
Good value for money
It was a good stay for a good price. Came for a concert in Uber Arena, so location for us was perfect. The rest was not critical. Clean and fine place.
Nice enough and in a convenient location
This hotel is close to public transportation and some of the sites I wanted to see. There are plenty of restaurants close by and it was not too noisy at night. The accommodations were modest, clean, and just fine for my stay as I was only there a few nights. The free wifi was a plus. There are no elevators and I was originally put in a room on a higher level. I have a physical disability and was able to be moved to a lower floor. That was all handled through chat earlier in the day of my arrival. The chat communication was handled efficiently and my needs were met.
The reception was only open 1 time while I was there. It was closed late morning and early afternoon as well so I regularly came in and out through the alley. As a solo female traveler, the courtyard and side alley was intimidating. It just didn't feel particularly safe, especially at night! The safes to access the keys are not the easiest. I struggled a bit and the motion detecting light stopped activating so I had to use my phone as a flashlight. On another occasion I had to help a gentleman who also couldn't figure it out.
Fantastic hotel but the sirens scream so loud you can't sleep
Great inexpensive find in a part of Berlin close to Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz and the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Four storeys and no elevator but to be fair, the ad did say that, so it wasn't a problem.
Unfortunately emergency service (police, fire, ambulance) sirens went right past the hotel at all hours of the night blaring so loud that it woke the dead each time. The road that the hotel is on must be a usual route for these services. This is no fault of the hotel of course but it made for a terrible night's sleep. Because of the sirens, SO LOUD, I sadly can't recommend this hotel.
Very good
- Friendly staff - Nice atmosphere - Large room
Not fancy but clean and in a great location, just be aware there’s no elevator and there is a kind of an industrial soap
Location was great, price was reasonable, room was clean, staff was friendly at checkin
No shower amenities like shampoo/conditioner, no drinking water or glasses.
Good for short stay !
The venue was less than 5 minutes away from the Astra Kulturhaus ! Perfect for concert, especially walking home. Next to a lot of food place, also really nice. The staff was really friendly, they let us check in early which we really appreciate ! The bed was comfy and the place was clean ! Definitely good value for money.
A little small but was enough for us, no elevator (we were told beforehand, but climbing to the 4th floor after a concert was challenging lol !)
Good
Shower was nice
