Nu Wave Hotel Berlin – Digital Check-In 2025
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to the Nu Wave Hotel on Gubener Straße, I wasn't sure what to expect from a place that literally puts "Digital Check-In 2025" in its name. But you know what? Sometimes the slightly quirky spots end up surprising you, and this three-star tucked into Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg actually gets it right in ways that matter.
The whole digital check-in thing isn't just a gimmick – it actually works pretty smoothly, which is saying something because I've dealt with plenty of clunky hotel apps that make you want to just find a human being with a key. Here, you can sort of breeze past the front desk if you want, though the staff are friendly enough when you do need them. The location is honestly what sold me on this place. Gubener Straße puts you right in the thick of things without being on one of those crazy busy streets where you can't sleep. You're a quick walk to Warschauer Straße station, which means the rest of Berlin opens up pretty easily, and – this is key – you're close enough to the East Side Gallery that you can actually walk there instead of cramming onto the S-Bahn with every other tourist.
The rooms themselves are clean and modern without trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect. I mean, they've clearly put thought into the design, but it doesn't feel sterile like some of these newer hotels. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point), and the WiFi works properly throughout the building. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – even though you're in a pretty lively neighborhood, the windows do their job. The bathrooms are compact but functional, with decent water pressure and those little touches that show they're paying attention to details. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle around here, but that's true for most of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg – if you're driving, just factor in some extra time to find a spot or ask about their arrangements.
The 8.1 rating makes sense to me because this isn't trying to be luxury, but it delivers on what it promises. The neighborhood vibe is fantastic – you've got proper local cafes and bars within a few blocks, not just tourist traps. On weekend mornings, you can hear the energy building as people head toward the weekend markets, but it's not overwhelming. I'd definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to explore this side of Berlin without paying Mitte prices. It's one of those places that just works – nothing flashy, but everything you actually need is there and done well.

Lovely stay
Great location, vibrant neighborhood, great staff, very clean
I wish the windows would have been able to open wider, at times it felt that there could have been more air in the room.
Superb
Nice room, people, quiet and green, feels safe overall. Nice little morning treat with coffee and croissants.
The ventilator in summer needs to be better, not so loud.
Great value
Great location, great value for money, self-checkin was easy
Nothing
Very good
Good value for money. The area is great and it was very quiet even with the window open. The room was squeaky clean and with a smart TV. The isolation from the other rooms and hallway is not the best, but luckily everyone was decent 🤗
Superb
Location. Quiet neighborhood. And the "Black mirror" sound in bathroom 👌😄
That I couldn't make tea in the evening ☹️
Good
Location
The check in instructions were sent via whatsapp without the possibility to open the video from the whatsapp message. A bit user friendly
excelent
the room was super big, a lot bigger than we expected, very clean and in a perfect area for us as we came for a concert at Uber Arena. Will deffinitely choose it again
it was a bit confusing at first to enter a hotel as we came pretty late but it was explained well
Very good
Quiet residential neighborhood, but still easy to get to Very comfortable bed
Noise insulation from the corridor could be improved (I woke up because of loud conversations) Also a shelf for the luggage would be nice
Solid spot, great location for Berghain
Great spot for getting to Berghain 🤙
Very good
Nice, clean room, comfortable beds
No teapot in room, and a bit noisy as our room was next to lift, could hear it doors opening
