Good Morning + Berlin City East
About
So I've stayed at Good Morning + Berlin City East a handful of times now, and honestly? It's one of those places that grows on you. First impression walking in – it's got this clean, minimalist vibe that feels very Berlin, you know? Not trying too hard to be boutique-y, just solid and straightforward. The lobby has this interesting mix of industrial touches and warm lighting that actually works better than it sounds.
What I really appreciate about this place is how it sits in the city. You're in the eastern part of Berlin (obviously), which means you're getting the real flavor of the city without being stuck in the tourist bubble around Brandenburg Gate. I mean, don't get me wrong – you can still get to all the major sites easily enough, but there's something nice about walking out the front door and seeing actual Berliners going about their day. The neighborhood has this authentic energy, especially in the mornings when you catch the coffee shop crowds and people heading to work. Plus, the S-Bahn connections from this area are actually pretty decent once you figure out the system.
The rooms themselves are what you'd expect from a solid 3-star – nothing fancy, but they've got everything you need and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I've noticed they keep things really clean, which honestly matters more to me than having marble countertops or whatever. The bathrooms are compact but functional, and the water pressure is consistently good (learned not to take that for granted in some European hotels). One thing that stood out – the windows actually open properly, which is great for getting some fresh air instead of relying on AC all the time. Though fair warning, if you're a super light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing away from the street since Berlin never really sleeps.
Staff-wise, they're helpful without being overly chatty, which suits the German approach perfectly. Check-in is usually smooth, and they seem to know the local area well when you need recommendations. I've asked about everything from late-night food spots to where to find a decent laundromat, and they always have solid answers. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare – nothing that'll blow your mind, but it'll definitely fuel you up for a day of exploring the city. Coffee's decent too, though if you're particular about your morning brew, there are some excellent local cafes within a few blocks.
Look, it's not going to win any design awards, and you're not getting luxury amenities here. But what you are getting is honest value in a city where hotel prices can get pretty crazy, especially during festival season or when there's a big conference in town. It's the kind of place where you can drop your bags, get a good night's sleep, and wake up ready to dive into everything Berlin has to offer. Sometimes that's exactly what you need – a comfortable base that doesn't eat up half your travel budget but still makes you feel like you're staying somewhere that gets the city right.

Friendly staff. The breakfast was GREAT and something we looked forward to every morning.
The location is good
The room was reasonably silent and warm. They also have comfortable beds and good bed sheets.
Good for moving
Cool retro Soviet style hotel. Very plain. Good beds. Good plumbing. Solid construction, so quiet. We had a street facing sixth floor room, so we could hear the ambulances at night, but got used to that quickly. Clean.
The room was pretty basic with no bells & whistles & in that regard it was decent.
