Grand Central City Apartments Mitte Museumsinsel
About
Look, I've stayed at a lot of places in Berlin, and Grand Central City Apartments on Kleine Gertraudenstraße actually surprised me – in the best way. The name sounds a bit corporate, honestly, but don't let that fool you. You're literally a three-minute walk from Museum Island, which means you can hit the Pergamon or Bode Museum before the tourist crowds descend (trust me on this – go early). The building itself has that solid, post-reunification vibe that's become quintessentially Mitte, and when you walk out the front door, you're surrounded by this perfect mix of old Berlin architecture and modern life that somehow just works.
What I really loved about this place was how it felt like having your own apartment rather than being stuck in some sterile hotel room. The units are spacious – I mean, genuinely spacious, not "spacious for Berlin" spacious – and they've got proper kitchens where you can actually cook if you want to save some euros or just can't face another schnitzel. The furnishing is modern without being cold, sort of that Scandinavian-meets-German efficiency thing that works so well. You know what's nice? The windows are properly soundproofed, which matters because Mitte can get lively, especially on weekends when people spill out of the bars around Hackescher Markt. I slept like a baby even though I was staying there during one of those endless summer nights when Berlin doesn't really get dark until after 10 PM.
Here's the thing though – and this is why I'd actually recommend this place to friends – the location is just ridiculously good without feeling touristy. You're close enough to walk to Alexanderplatz (though honestly, why would you want to spend much time there), but you're also perfectly positioned to explore the really good stuff. Zur Letzten Instanz, Berlin's oldest restaurant, is basically around the corner, and if you head toward the river, you'll find yourself wandering along the Spree with locals walking their dogs and couples sharing bottles of wine on the grass. The nearest U-Bahn stop gets you anywhere in the city quickly, and there's a decent grocery store nearby – Edeka, I think – where you can grab breakfast supplies or whatever. Check-in was smooth, parking... well, it's Mitte, so good luck with that, but honestly you don't need a car here anyway. The whole experience just felt effortless, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to actually enjoy a city instead of fighting with your accommodation.

Me and my friends have really enjoyed our stay in Grand Central. The accommodation was perfect for a big group, very spa
The location was amazing and the flat was extremely spacious! You can walk to historical sites and shopping street in less than 20 minutes. The flat is also very close to venues can uber or ebike under 10minutes. The flat itself was very tidy and clean, we have all really enjoyed our stay.
Everything was very good, just be aware of check-in/out times.
Great host, great location.
The locaion was excellent, right next to Museum island and Alexanderplatz.
Everything was great.
Pleasant journey with best friends !!!
Easy to access, central position, space inside
Very comfortable apartment in great location
Large comfortable apartment.
It was on the 3rd floor with no lift which was fine for us but people need to know in case they cannot manage the stairs. It would be helpful to have 1 or 2 coffee pods for the coffee machine as I bought the wrong ones.
Perfect Spot for Exploring Berlin with Friends
"The house is in a perfect location — you can reach all major areas in Berlin within 15 minutes on foot. There were actually two bathrooms, which we hadn’t noticed when renting. It was a pleasant surprise and really convenient, especially with a big group.
The only downside was that the Wi-Fi didn’t work very well, and there were too few power outlets in the rooms.
Great apartment on Museum Island.
Location is superb, 10 min walk from Alexanderplatz, 2 mins from UBahn and a cafe on the ground floor serving breakfast lunch and beer! A short walk to an array of nice bars and restaurants in cobbled streets next to the canal (Propststraɓe) Very spacious apartment with 2 large bedrooms and a 3rd bedroom incorporated in lounge area. Good seating area in kitchen. Kitchen was well equipped and all necessary appliances available inc a washing machine! Loads of storage in each bedroom for clothes and 3 writing desks. Really bright and airy with good black out curtains if required and windows that open fully. Full smart TVs also present albeit only 1 remote!
4 of us staying as 4 singles but were only provided with 4 pillows and 4 small duvets (didnt cover the 3 double beds)...not a big issue but would have been better with full bedding. Some issues with cleanliness...one bedside table had a smear of something unpleasant along with body hair but other than that it was generally good. Not an issue for us but be aware its a 2nd floor apartment with stairs. Only other slight minor niggle- better check in instructions...we were chasing until just a few hours before the flight. Understandably the door code can't be sent but some instructions explaining when you would be told would be good. A simple welcome pack would also benefit with a map and some recommendations of bars, restaurants, attractions etc.....again a minor point.
Nice property in a good location but we wouldn't stay again
The location of the apartment is excellent for exploring Berlin and the local area with good transport links. It was clean and tidy when we arrived and was easy to access.
Unfortunately a number of large groups in the other apartments made a lot of noise late into the night/the early hours of the morning that prevented us getting to sleep in the main bedroom as, they would sit on the window ledges and the sound would echo around the courtyard. The apartment was spacious but did not have all the basics we are used to from similar properties such as toiletries (which were listed under amenities), hand towels, kitchen roll, oil, salt etc. all the little things you need and wouldn't bring when visiting from another country. There was no oven glove and the oven temperature control did not work, which we reported but was not fixed. We also only had a small towel and a hand towel each for a whole week, as well as very limited bedding of one pillow and one small single duvet each (even on the double bed).
Res a destacar. La wiffi amb senyal dèbil en algun punt, però ideal per desconectar.
