Look, when I first saw the listing for this place on Bastianstraße, I'll be honest – I was a bit skeptical about staying in a "penthouse" in Mitte for what seemed like a reasonable price. But honestly? This spot absolutely delivers, and that 9.1 rating isn't just inflated travel website nonsense.

The location is actually perfect if you know Berlin at all. You're right in the heart of Mitte, but on one of those quieter residential streets that locals love – you know, the kind where you can actually sleep at night without drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM. Wedding district is literally right next door, which means you get all the cool, artsy vibes without the Wedding prices (if you know, you know). The U-Bahn is close enough that you can walk there in a few minutes, but far enough that you don't hear the trains. I mean, during the day there's the usual city hum, but it's not overwhelming.

What really got me was stepping out onto those balconies – and there are actually two of them, plus the terrace. The morning light hits just right, and you can see across the rooftops in that uniquely Berlin way where socialist-era buildings mix with newer developments and somehow it all works. The terrace is where I ended up spending most evenings, honestly. There's something about having that much outdoor space in the middle of the city that just... well, it changes how you experience a place. You're not stuck inside a hotel room scrolling your phone – you're actually living in Berlin for a few days.

The apartment itself feels genuinely spacious, not like those cramped "luxury" places where you can barely open your suitcase. Everything's clean and updated (the shower pressure is solid, which matters more than people admit), but it doesn't have that sterile, corporate hotel feel. It's more like staying at a well-organized friend's place, if that friend had really good taste and kept their space immaculate. Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward standing around the lobby waiting for someone to find your reservation.

I stayed here in late spring, which might be the sweet spot honestly. Warm enough to use the outdoor spaces properly, but before the summer crowds make everything in Mitte feel like a tourist zoo. The neighborhood has this great rhythm during the day – locals heading to work, people walking dogs, the occasional delivery truck – but it settles down nicely in the evening. There's a decent café around the corner that the locals actually use (always a good sign), and you're walking distance from some legitimately good restaurants that haven't been completely discovered yet.

The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the building entrance is a bit nondescript, so you might walk past it the first time like I did. But once you're up there, with those views and all that space to spread out, you'll understand why this place consistently gets such high ratings. It's one of those stays where you actually feel like you're living in the city rather than just visiting it.
