About this stay

About

Look, I'll be honest – when I first saw "HOLI DAY SPA Appartement 2" on Düsterhauptstraße, I wasn't exactly blown away by the curb appeal. Reinickendorf isn't the sexiest Berlin district, and this stretch of the neighborhood feels more residential than touristy. But you know what? Sometimes that's exactly what you need after bouncing around the city's busier areas. The building itself is pretty typical Berlin – that solid, no-nonsense architecture you see everywhere once you get away from Mitte's flashier spots. What actually surprised me was how quiet it gets here, especially in the evenings. You're still technically in Berlin, but the street noise that usually keeps you up? Not really an issue.

The apartment itself punches above its 3-star rating, honestly. I mean, don't expect luxury – the finishes are basic and the furniture won't win any design awards – but everything works, and there's this sort of lived-in comfort that you don't get in cookie-cutter hotel rooms. The spa element is more modest than the name suggests (think nice bathroom with decent water pressure rather than full wellness center), but after walking around Berlin all day, I actually appreciated having space to spread out and really unwind. The kitchen setup is pretty functional too, which matters if you're staying more than a couple nights or just want to grab groceries from the nearby shops instead of eating out every meal. Parking can be a bit of a hunt on this street – typical Berlin situation where you might circle the block a few times, but it's not impossible.

Here's the thing that made it work for me: you're genuinely living like a local for a few days. The S-Bahn connections from this part of Reinickendorf are actually pretty solid – you can get to the center without too much hassle, but you come home to a neighborhood where people are just going about their regular lives. There's a decent bakery about two blocks down, and honestly, some of the best Berlin experiences happen when you're not trying so hard to have them. The 8.1 rating makes sense once you adjust your expectations – this isn't trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on the basics and then some. If you're the type of traveler who values having your own space and doesn't need to be right in the thick of tourist central, this spot actually offers pretty good value. Just don't expect anyone at reception to speak perfect English (though they try), and maybe download a transit app before you arrive.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Berlin at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous outdoor festivals and cultural events.

Cosy modern apartment in a quiet neighbourhood

Location was a little out of the way but easy enough train into Berlin city centre. It was very quiet and lots of shops nearby, comfortable beds - was a very good hotel.

What could be improved: Wifi was not great - very choppy/ spotty, could benefit from a wifi extender. There was no oven, but as a holiday kitchen it was very good
