Homaris East Side
About
First Impressions
Walking up to Homaris East Side on Mühlenstraße, you immediately get that "this is the real Berlin" feeling. The three-star hotel sits right in the heart of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, and honestly, the location couldn't be better if you want to experience what locals actually love about this city. The building itself has that understated Berlin charm — not flashy, but there's something authentic about it that feels refreshing after seeing so many cookie-cutter hotels elsewhere.
The Friedrichshain Advantage
Here's what I love about staying at Homaris East Side — you're literally in one of Berlin's most vibrant neighborhoods without the tourist trap nonsense. Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is where Berliners actually hang out, and you can feel it the moment you step outside. The East Side Gallery (that famous stretch of the Berlin Wall) is practically on your doorstep, but more importantly, you've got incredible cafes, proper German bakeries, and some of the city's best nightlife within walking distance. I mean, couples rate this location 8.9 out of 10 for good reason — there's something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets together, discovering little bars tucked away in courtyards.
What You're Actually Getting
The rooms at Homaris East Side are exactly what you'd expect from a well-run three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without any unnecessary frills. What impressed me most was how quiet it stays despite being in such a lively area. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I'm picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won't feel like you're roughing it. You know what's nice? The windows actually open properly, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you want fresh air without cranking up the AC.
Getting Around Berlin
The public transport connections from here are honestly fantastic — Warschauer Straße station is close by, which puts you on both the S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks. You can be in Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg in fifteen minutes, but here's the thing — you might not want to leave the neighborhood that often. There's something addictive about the energy around Boxhagener Platz, especially on weekends when the farmers market takes over. Plus, if you're into the whole Berlin club scene, you're already in the right area without having to navigate late-night transport back to some sterile hotel district.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
What really sets Homaris East Side apart is how it manages to feel like a local experience rather than just another place to sleep. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they'll point you toward the good coffee spots and warn you away from the tourist traps. Recent guests consistently rate the location at 9.0, and after spending time here, I totally get why. It's that sweet spot where you feel connected to authentic Berlin life while still having all the comfort and reliability you want from your accommodation. You're not just visiting Berlin from here — you're actually living in it, even if it's just for a few days.

Location was good, short walk to the train station, close to restaurants and a lidl, shower was really good and come with a powerful hair dryer. There a portable heater and fan. We appreciated the heater.
