Homely Berlin – Loft, Terrace, Near Ostkreuz I Free parking
About
You know what struck me first about this place? The name actually delivers – it really does feel homely, which honestly isn't something you can say about most Berlin accommodations. I mean, when you're staying in a converted loft space with your own terrace, you're already winning, but the whole vibe here just works.
The location near Ostkreuz is pretty brilliant if you ask me. Sure, it's not Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg where all the tourists flock, but that's exactly why I loved it. You're in this authentic Berlin neighborhood – Friedrichshain meets Kreuzberg energy – where you'll actually see locals going about their day instead of just other travelers taking selfies. The S-Bahn connections from Ostkreuz are incredible (seriously, you can get anywhere in the city), and there's this great little Turkish bakery about a five-minute walk away that does these amazing börek things for breakfast. The free parking thing is huge too – I can't tell you how much of a relief that was, because finding a spot in central Berlin is basically a contact sport.
The loft itself has this industrial-chic thing going on without being pretentious about it. High ceilings, lots of natural light, and honestly the terrace became my favorite spot for morning coffee. You're not overlooking anything spectacular – just regular Berlin rooftops and some tree-lined streets – but there's something really peaceful about it. The 9.0 rating makes total sense when you factor in how clean everything was and how smoothly check-in went. I was expecting some complicated key exchange situation, but it was refreshingly straightforward. The space is well-equipped too – proper kitchen setup if you want to cook (which I recommend, especially after hitting up the Boxhagener Platz market on Saturdays), decent WiFi, and the heating actually works properly, which isn't always a given in these converted spaces. Only minor thing I'd mention is that it can get a bit noisy on weekend evenings – you're still in Berlin after all, and the neighborhood knows how to have a good time – but honestly, that just adds to the authentic experience. If you want sterile and silent, book a chain hotel in Charlottenburg.
