Hotel 38
About
You know what struck me first about Hotel 38? It's right there on Oranienburger Straße, which honestly is one of those streets that perfectly captures Berlin's whole vibe – part historic, part edgy, completely unpredictable. I mean, you're literally a few minutes' walk from the New Synagogue with its gorgeous golden dome, and somehow that feels fitting for a place that sits right in the sweet spot between tourist Berlin and local Berlin.
The hotel itself is refreshingly honest about what it is. It's a solid 3-star that doesn't try to be fancy, but actually nails the basics in a way that makes you think "okay, these people get it." The lobby has this understated industrial thing going on – exposed brick, clean lines, nothing too precious. Check-in was smooth (I got there around 3 PM on a Thursday), and the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. My room was on the third floor, and here's something I appreciated – the windows actually open properly, which is weirdly rare these days. The street can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially on weekends, but it's more interesting than disruptive. You're in Mitte, after all.
What really won me over was the location intelligence. You're close enough to all the major sites that you could walk to Brandenburg Gate or Museum Island without breaking a sweat, but you're also positioned perfectly for the stuff that makes Berlin actually Berlin. Hackescher Markt is right there with all those courtyards and galleries, and if you head the other way toward Rosenthaler Platz, you'll find some of the best coffee shops and vintage stores in the city. There's a U-Bahn station (Oranienburger Tor) basically around the corner, which connects you to everything else efficiently. I noticed quite a few locals in the surrounding cafes and bars, which is always a good sign – it means you're not stuck in some tourist bubble. The breakfast was better than expected too, nothing revolutionary but proper coffee and fresh bread, plus they seem to understand that not everyone wants to eat at 7 AM sharp. Honestly, for the price point and that 8.4 rating, Hotel 38 feels like one of those places where everything just works without any drama, and sometimes that's exactly what you want when you're exploring a city as intense as Berlin.

Superb
clean room - very good location - breakfast with variety
there was not an air conditioning as we usually see in hotel rooms -instead there is a strange machine that although it produces cool air it’s so loud that it’s impossible to sleep if this is turned on. We were lucky because although there was a very high temperature (37o) at night we managed to sleep without the machine. another problem was that the room they gave us wasn’t the room at the photos when we were made the booking. when i complained they said that we should complain to booking.com for this.
Very good

Clean room, good breakfast, accommodating storing luggage.
The showers had great power. They were awesome letting us store our luggage for the day.
I didn’t find A/C but opening the windows at night was very nice.
Superb
Good location, right outside the tram stop
No hand soap in my room, only shower gel
Clean comfortable hotel.
Spacious and quiet room, clean and comfy. Good continental breakfast. Very pleasant surroundings. Easy transport links. Friendly staff.
Good for a short stay, the breakfast could be better.
Location Comfortable bed Clean
The room is very small, as well as the bathroom, so not expect lots of space to leave the luggage. The breakfast is OK but it lacks variety, specially on fruits. The coffee is just filter coffee, other types are available at extra cost.

Helpful friendly staff who offered to store out luggage on the last day and lent me a plug adapter when I asked about where I could buy one.
