Hotel Ambassador-Berlin Grünau
About
You know what? Hotel Ambassador-Berlin Grünau surprised me in the best way possible. I'll be honest - when I first heard "Grünau," I had to look it up on the map, and I'm actually glad I did. This little corner of southeast Berlin feels like you've stumbled into a completely different world, where the Dahme River winds through everything and locals are out kayaking on random Tuesday afternoons.
The hotel itself sits in this surprisingly green pocket of the city - I mean, Grünau literally translates to "green meadow," so I guess they weren't kidding around with the name. It's one of those solid 3-star places that doesn't try to be fancy but gets the important stuff right. The rooms are clean and comfortable (honestly, the beds are better than some 4-star places I've stayed), and there's something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on being genuinely welcoming rather than Instagram-perfect. The staff actually seems to enjoy working there, which you notice immediately when you walk in. No fake smiles or rehearsed scripts - just people who'll give you real directions to the good coffee shop down the street.
What really got me was the location, though. Sure, you're about 30 minutes from Brandenburg Gate by S-Bahn, but that's actually part of the charm. Grünau has this laid-back, almost small-town vibe that makes you forget you're in a major European capital. There's a marina literally a five-minute walk away where you can rent boats or just sit by the water with a beer from the little kiosk. The Regattastrecke (that's the Olympic rowing course from 1936, if you're into that sort of thing) is right there too - early morning joggers and dog walkers everywhere, which creates this nice, lived-in atmosphere. I found myself taking evening walks along the water way more than I expected, watching people fish and families having barbecues in the little parks. It's the kind of neighborhood where you actually see how Berliners live when they're not being tourists in their own city. The 7.8 rating makes total sense - it's not trying to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises, and sometimes that's exactly what you need after a long day of sightseeing in the busier parts of Berlin.

I loved everything! I highly recommend!
It was a very easy system and we felt like we were in our own apartment.
What breakfast? Bed and pillow was comfy. I liked the desk and chair in the room. The food store next door was great and a convenience for a traveler.
Sadly, the fridge was not operational.
