Hotel Ambassador-Berlin Grünau
About
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Ambassador-Berlin Grünau, you immediately sense this isn't your typical Berlin hotel experience. Located in the quieter Treptow-Köpenick district, this three-star property sits right on Riesserseestrasse — and honestly, the setting caught me off guard in the best way possible. You're trading the hustle of Mitte for something more peaceful, yet you never feel disconnected from the city. The lobby has that understated German efficiency I've come to appreciate, clean lines without being sterile, and staff who actually seem to know the neighborhood inside and out.
The Grünau Advantage
Here's what most visitors don't realize about staying in Grünau — you're positioned perfectly for both water activities and easy city access. The Dahme River runs right through this area, and I mean, you can literally walk to the waterfront in minutes from the hotel. It's particularly popular with couples (which makes total sense given how romantic those riverside walks can be), and the recent guest ratings back that up. The S-Bahn connections are actually quite good from here, so getting into central Berlin takes about 30 minutes, but you return each evening to something that feels more like a lakeside retreat than urban accommodation.
Rooms and Comfort
The rooms strike that sweet spot between functional and comfortable — nothing flashy, but everything works as it should. What I appreciated most was the attention to sound insulation; despite being near transportation links, nights are genuinely quiet. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, and you'll find those little touches that show someone's thinking about guest experience — decent water pressure, proper lighting for getting ready, hooks where you actually need them. The beds are firm in that distinctly German way, which personally I find perfect for a good night's sleep after walking around Berlin all day.
Local Discoveries
Staying at Hotel Ambassador-Berlin Grünau puts you in prime position to explore parts of Berlin most tourists never see. The nearby Grünau Regatta Course hosted Olympic rowing events, and the whole area has this fascinating mix of GDR-era architecture and modern waterfront development. There's a lovely beer garden about ten minutes' walk away that locals frequent — the kind of place where you'll hear more German than English, which I always take as a good sign. The hotel staff pointed me toward some excellent local restaurants that I definitely wouldn't have found on my own, particularly a Serbian place that's become something of a neighborhood institution.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances accessibility with tranquility. You get that highly-rated location benefit without paying Mitte prices, and the atmosphere is refreshingly authentic. Couples particularly seem drawn to the romantic potential of the riverside setting — evening strolls along the Dahme, quiet dinners at local spots, mornings that don't start with tourist crowds. The three-star rating reflects the straightforward approach here: solid comfort, genuine hospitality, and a location that offers something different from the typical Berlin hotel experience. It's not trying to be something it's not, and that honesty is exactly what makes it work so well.

It was a very easy system and we felt like we were in our own apartment.
What breakfast? Bed and pillow was comfy. I liked the desk and chair in the room. The food store next door was great and a convenience for a traveler.
Sadly, the fridge was not operational.
