Pension Amanda
About
You know what? Pension Amanda is one of those places that doesn't try to be anything fancy, and honestly, that's exactly why it works. When I first walked in, I'll admit my expectations weren't sky-high – I mean, it's a 3-star pension, not the Ritz. But there's something refreshingly straightforward about the whole operation that grew on me pretty quickly.
The thing about Amanda is that it feels like staying at your well-organized aunt's house, if your aunt happened to run a small hotel and actually knew what she was doing. The rooms are clean without being sterile, comfortable without any unnecessary frills. The beds are surprisingly decent – I'm talking proper sleep, not that tossing-and-turning nonsense you get at some budget places. Sure, the decor isn't going to win any design awards (think practical furniture and neutral colors), but everything just... works. The Wi-Fi actually connects when you need it, the shower has decent water pressure, and – this might sound weird – but the whole place has this quiet efficiency that I really appreciated after dealing with some chaotic hotel experiences elsewhere.
What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting the basics right. Check-in was smooth, no unnecessary paperwork drama, and when I asked about local recommendations, they gave me actual useful suggestions instead of just pointing to the tourist traps. The breakfast isn't elaborate, but it's fresh and fills you up properly – good coffee, decent pastries, and they don't rush you out the door. I noticed they keep the common areas tidy without being obsessive about it, and there's this comfortable buzz in the mornings when guests are planning their days. The location works well too – you're not stuck in some remote corner, but you're also not dealing with constant street noise at night. Parking was straightforward when I needed it, which honestly can make or break a stay sometimes. Look, Amanda isn't going to wow you with luxury touches or Instagram-worthy amenities, but if you want a solid, reliable base without the fuss (or the inflated prices), it delivers exactly what it promises. Sometimes that's exactly what you need.

The location was fine
Clean nice
Relatively quite place
Good public transport to city centre
The place was very clean and new. It´s a big house with many rooms in a residential area about 50 minuts from Berlin city center. There is also a small space to heat food or have a coffee at the entrance. All the comunication was done by phone or Whatsapp, there wasn´t someone from the hostel there.
This was my second stay. Pension Amanda is now my first choice in Berlin backpacker accommodation, when not sold out. You can believe the photos, which display a clean, highly-presentable budget accommodation. This visit, the code for the key-safe arrived timely on my phone, so check-in was easy. My single room this time was number 8, which was noticeably preferable to 9, which I had last time, although 9 was quite okay.
A big comfortable bed, with an ensuite and a fridge in our room. Coffee making station downstairs with access to a communal fridge. Crockery and cutlery provided, but supply your own coffee and tea. Good access to Berlin by bus, train or car. Used "Bolt" to get to the main train station to start our Big Bus Tour. "Bolt" only cost 15 euro. It was hell getting home from there though, we think the big glass building must have reflected the GPS around. We called 3 "Bolt" and 2 taxis and none could find us. We moved over a street and got picked up fine.
Attractive property a kilometer or so from Wittenau U and S Bahn station. You can believe the photos. Quiet room, although sounds came through the plumbing system, apparently when a toilet was flushed or water was run in another room. Quite clean, but I'm not a carpet fan, and I especially couldn't speculate on the cleanliness of the rugs in the bathroom. The shower in my single room had nice hot water, but it was oddly configured and I couldn't avoid dumping a lot of water on the floor. Others obviously had the same problem, because the door frame was rotted out at the bottom from exposure to water and had been more or less repaired. Good value, and recommended overall.
