HOTEL BERLIN KÖPENICK by Leonardo Hotels
About
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I first pulled up to the Leonardo Hotels property in Köpenick – I mean, it's tucked away in what feels like Berlin's quieter corner, far from the tourist madness of Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg. But you know what? That ended up being exactly what made it special.
The thing about Köpenick is that it's where actual Berliners live and breathe. You're right on the edge of the Spree, and I'm not talking about the heavily touristed sections downtown – this is where the river still feels wild and green. The hotel itself has that clean, modern Leonardo vibe (you'll recognize it if you've stayed at their other properties), but what really got me was stepping outside. There's this incredible old town area just a short walk away where you can grab proper German food without fighting through crowds of selfie sticks. The Köpenick Palace is literally around the corner, and most tourists never even know it exists.
What I really appreciated – and this might sound weird – was how quiet everything gets after about 9 PM. Not dead quiet, just... peaceful. You can actually hear the water lapping against the banks when you open your windows. The rooms themselves are solid 4-star standard, nothing groundbreaking but everything works exactly as it should. The beds are firm (which I personally love, though your mileage may vary), and the shower pressure is actually decent, which honestly can be hit or miss in Berlin hotels. Check-in was smooth, though I'd recommend arriving before evening rush hour because the S-Bahn connections to this area can get a bit spotty during peak times.
Here's the real insider tip though – if you're someone who wants to experience Berlin beyond the obvious attractions, this location is gold. You're close enough to hop into the city center when you want that urban energy, but you get to come home to something that feels more authentic. I spent one evening just walking along the waterfront, watching locals with their dogs, families having picnic dinners. It's the Berlin that doesn't make it onto Instagram stories, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The 8.2 rating makes total sense to me – it's not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it delivers on everything it promises and then gives you that bonus of being in a neighborhood where you might actually bump into what Berlin life feels like when nobody's performing for visitors.
Visitors often choose Berlin apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent German capital.

Spacious rooms * great breakfast selection * and a really nice hotel bar/lounge
Very nice main hall and reception area with a restaurant and a bar.
The hotel is excellent. Good rooms, comfortable beds, AC worked perfectly to regulate temperature. Stuff was very welcoming and helped to solve all questions and issues. Located a bit far from the center, but close there is public transport stops so it is easy to get to the city and airport. Neighborhood is quiet.
We had a great, spacious room with a view towards the river. Dog friendly. Convenient underground parking. The breakfast area was super cosy with a good selection.
