Hotel Comenius
About
You know what struck me first about Hotel Comenius? It's tucked away on this quiet stretch of Grünberger Straße where you can actually hear yourself think – which is saying something in Berlin. I mean, you're still right in the heart of Friedrichshain, but somehow they found this sweet spot that feels residential without being boring. The building itself has that classic Berlin charm, sort of industrial-meets-cozy that the neighborhood does so well. When I walked in, honestly, I wasn't expecting much from a 3-star place, but the lobby had this warm, lived-in feeling that immediately put me at ease. No fancy marble or intimidating chandeliers – just clean lines, decent lighting, and staff who actually seemed happy to see me.
The rooms are what I'd call "smartly simple." Nothing fancy, but everything works properly (you'd be surprised how rare that is). The beds are genuinely comfortable – I slept better there than I have in some supposedly luxury places. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains that actually block the light, outlets near the bed where you need them, and a bathroom that doesn't make you play Tetris with your toiletries. The neighborhood noise level is pretty reasonable too, though if you're on the street side you might catch some late-night conversation from people walking home from the bars around Boxhagener Platz – but honestly, that's just part of the Berlin experience.
Location-wise, you're perfectly positioned to explore without feeling like a total tourist. Warschauer Straße station is maybe a 10-minute walk, which gets you anywhere in the city pretty quickly. But here's the thing – you might not want to leave the neighborhood that often. There's this fantastic little coffee spot called Father Carpenter just around the corner, and the Sunday market at Boxhagener Platz is absolutely worth timing your stay around if you can. The whole area has this great mix of young families, artists, and long-time locals that gives it actual character rather than that sterile gentrified feeling you get in some parts of Berlin. I found myself just wandering the side streets in the evenings, discovering random galleries and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. For the price point and that 8.2 rating, Hotel Comenius delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, unpretentious base in one of Berlin's most authentic neighborhoods. It's not trying to be something it's not, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Berlin at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous outdoor festivals and cultural events.

Nothing.
staff were friendly and the room was very nice and new
recently refurbished
There were lots of boxes and old mattresses in the common spaces. The outside area was not very clean
God hostel in good location
Great location, overall good hostel.
The host has forgotten to send the check-in instructions (seems it is done manually), calling the phone number also didn't help and it was not possible to enter the hostel at 17:00 (the reception is closed after 16:00). Finally everything was fine, I called booking customer service and they contacted the host directly, so the problem was resolved relatively fast and we got the sms/email with check-in instructions. In total we've lost not more than 30 minutes. Other than that everything was good and we liked the hostel.
great value for money
the location was good, the room was clean and good looking over all the stay was better than expected, we enjoyed how the hotel made sure that we could easily find the way in without having to interact with any staff.
Great location in a bustling neighborhood, close to Uber Arena.
The room was spacious and newly renovated. Super quiet, friendly staff. Great value. It was the perfect place to stay close to Uber Arena without spending a fortune!
It exceeded my expectations. However , the bathroom is quite tiny and not renovated, but it didn’t bother me for one night.
