Hotel Sachsenhof
About
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Sachsenhof? The moment I walked through those doors on Motzstraße, it felt like I'd stumbled into someone's well-appointed Berlin apartment rather than a typical hotel lobby. There's this understated elegance that's very... well, very German actually – nothing flashy, but everything just works. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you've been there, because honestly, this place punches way above its three-star weight class.
The location is what really sold me though. I mean, everyone talks about staying in Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg, but Tempelhof-Schöneberg? That's where Berliners actually live. You're literally a five-minute walk to Nollendorfplatz U-Bahn station, which means you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with tourist crowds every time you leave your hotel. Plus – and this is something I only figured out after wandering around – you're in the heart of what used to be West Berlin's LGBTQ+ district, so there's this incredible mix of historic bars, cozy cafés, and late-night spots that most visitors never discover. The breakfast spot around the corner (I think it was called Café Einstein?) became my daily ritual, and I'd see the same locals every morning reading their newspapers.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central. The rooms face away from the main street traffic, so you actually get decent sleep – something that's honestly rare in Berlin hotels. The staff seemed to know their neighborhood inside and out too; they pointed me toward this tiny wine bar on Fuggerstraße that I never would have found otherwise. Sure, the rooms aren't huge (this is Berlin, after all), but they're thoughtfully designed with those high ceilings that make everything feel more spacious. The Wi-Fi was solid, the shower had proper water pressure, and there's something to be said for a place that doesn't try to be everything to everyone. It just does the basics really, really well. If you're the type of traveler who wants to experience Berlin like you live there rather than just passing through, this is your spot.

Superb
The location was great. Room was comfortable.
Friendly staff, charming hotel, nice location but very loud at night.
Very friendly and accomodating staff. Great location right by the train station with tons of restaurants nearby.
It was difficult to sleep due to the noise in the streets. People were yelling and partying all night long even on weekdays which is the downside of the location.

Easy access from the main rail, close to the Tiergarten, super friendly and helpful.
The location was close to the beating heart of Berlin. Either 25 minutes by train or about 15 on a rentable bike or scooter. The room was comfy, very clean and serviced daily. I didn’t take the breakfast option and there were many supermarkets and coffee shops and restaurants close by. My room was exceptionally quiet towards the back of the hotel.
The beds for a single occupant are indeed a single bed in a room. Comfy but small. The room has a fan but no aircon.
