Josty Brauerei Appartements
About
You know what struck me first about Josty Brauerei Appartements? The smell of malt and hops that drifts through the building – not overpowering, just this warm, yeasty scent that reminds you you're staying somewhere with actual character. It's one of those places where the brewery heritage isn't just marketing fluff; you can genuinely feel it in the thick walls and hear the gentle hum of brewing operations if you listen closely (though honestly, it's more soothing than disruptive, especially at night).
The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious for a 3-star spot, with these lovely exposed beams that make you want to run your fingers along the wood grain. I mean, sure, the furniture isn't going to win any design awards – it's that practical European style that prioritizes function over Instagram-worthy photos – but everything actually works properly, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I've stayed. The kitchenettes are genuinely useful too, not those token mini-fridges with a hot plate that most hotels throw in. You'll find proper pots and pans, decent knives, the works. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because, well, why not? Plus there's something satisfying about making coffee while listening to the brewery coming to life downstairs.
What really won me over was how the staff treats you like you're staying with knowledgeable locals rather than just passing through. They'll tell you which U-Bahn connections actually run on time (spoiler: not all of them do), where to grab the best spätzle without tourist markup, and – this was clutch – which nights the brewery hosts those informal tasting sessions where you can wander down and try whatever they're experimenting with. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense once you realize this isn't trying to be a slick business hotel; it's more like staying in a really well-run guesthouse that happens to make excellent beer. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no upselling, no lengthy explanations of amenities you'll never use, just keys and genuine recommendations. The only minor gripe? The Wi-Fi gets a bit sluggish during peak hours, but honestly, that almost felt like a feature rather than a bug, giving me an excuse to actually explore instead of scrolling my phone all evening.

The superior apartment we booked is super spacious (7 windows!!) and tastefully designed, has all amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Location is fantastic, the museum island and Alexander platz are within 20 minutes walk. The restaurant in the same building is an absolute gem, highly recommend paying a visit if you stay in the apartment, both cuisine, interior and service are great. The inner courtyard is very pleasant and since all windows are directed to it, it’s very quiet in the unit. We slept like babies! I would definitely stay here again when I’m in Berlin next time.
We stayed in apartment 4 which is on the top floor, it has huge glass doors across one whole side of the apartment giving lots of amazing light! The space was amazing, lots of room and with a vaulted ceiling, the feeling of air and comfort. The temperature was lovely in the apartment during 0° weather, it stayed 20-22° throughout. The shower was powerful and hot, exactly how we like it. The WiFi was reliable and fast and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Perfect location IMO, in the heart of Mitte and felt very secure. The service from Klaus was very friendly and informative. We were allowed to store our bags before check in, due to an early arrival.
