Kurfürst am Kurfürstendamm
About
You know what? The Kurfürst am Kurfürstendamm is one of those places that completely surprised me. I'll be honest - when I first walked up to it, I wasn't expecting much from a 3-star spot on Berlin's busiest shopping street. But honestly, sometimes those assumptions just bite you in the ass.
The thing about staying right on Ku'damm (that's what locals call Kurfürstendamm, and you'll sound like a tourist if you say the whole name) is that you're literally in the thick of everything, but this hotel somehow manages to feel like a quiet retreat once you're inside. I mean, yes, you'll hear some street noise - it's Berlin, not a monastery - but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated. The lobby has this old-school German charm that feels authentic rather than trying too hard, with dark wood and those heavy curtains that actually block out light when you want to sleep in after a night exploring the city's legendary nightlife.
What really sold me on this place was the staff's genuine local knowledge. The guy at reception - I think his name was Klaus - didn't just give me the typical tourist map routine. He actually marked up a little hand-drawn thing showing me which U-Bahn entrance to use (apparently there's a faster way to get to Museum Island that most visitors never figure out), and steered me toward this incredible Turkish place three blocks away that doesn't even have a sign. That's the kind of insider info you can't get from chain hotels. The rooms themselves are... well, they're not going to blow your mind, but they're clean, the beds are actually comfortable, and there's enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. Plus - and this might sound weird - but the shower pressure is fantastic, which honestly can make or break a trip when you're walking 15,000 steps a day.
Location-wise, you're about a two-minute walk from Uhlandstraße station, and honestly, that puts the entire city at your fingertips. Want to hit the Brandenburg Gate? Fifteen minutes on the U1. Feeling like some serious museum time? The bus to Potsdamer Platz stops right outside. And if you're into shopping - which, let's face it, is probably why you're staying on Ku'damm anyway - you've got everything from the massive KaDeWe department store to tiny vintage boutiques within walking distance. I spent way too much money at the cheese counter in KaDeWe, but that's neither here nor there.
Look, this isn't the fanciest place you'll ever stay, and that 7.6 rating feels about right - it's solid, reliable, and unpretentious. But sometimes that's exactly what you want, especially in a city like Berlin where the real magic happens outside your hotel room anyway. You're paying for the location and the local touch, not marble bathrooms or a rooftop pool. And honestly? After three nights there, I was already planning my next trip back.

Location and good value for your money
The location was very handy for exploring central Berlin and all the attractions available. Although the majority were accessed via using the plentiful transport options, this was still easy due to the hotels location. Breakfast was also very nice and reasonably priced. The staff were all very lovely and helpful
I liked the fact that it was located just off the Kurfürstendamm. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The bus stop was only a few metres away from the Hotel and I could get a bus into the heart of Berlin. The S-Bahn was just a few minutes away.
