About this stay

About

Look, I've stayed in a lot of places along Ku'damm over the years, but this penthouse situation is honestly something else entirely. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and immediately think "okay, this is way nicer than the photos suggested"? That's exactly what happened here. The elevator ride up feels like it takes forever – which actually builds the anticipation in this weirdly perfect way – and then the doors open and you're just... wow.

The space itself is genuinely massive, and I mean that in the best possible way. None of that cramped European hotel room nonsense where you're bumping into furniture every time you turn around. The windows are floor-to-ceiling and face west, so if you're into sunsets (and honestly, who isn't?), you're going to spend way too much time just standing there watching the light change over the city. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church looks completely different from up here – sort of peaceful instead of surrounded by all that shopping chaos. And speaking of shopping, you can literally see people walking in and out of KaDeWe from the living room, which is either entertaining or mildly concerning depending on your relationship with impulse purchases.

What really got me though was how quiet it is up there. Ku'damm is basically a river of cars and buses and tourists most hours of the day, but somehow none of that reaches the penthouse level. Well, except for the occasional siren, but even that sounds distant and sort of romantic? The kitchen is actually functional too – not just one of those hotel kitchenettes with a sad mini-fridge and a microwave that looks like it's from 1987. I ended up cooking breakfast a few times just because I could, and there's something really satisfying about making coffee while looking out over half of Charlottenburg. The bedroom situation is equally impressive, with this massive bed that faces another wall of windows. Pro tip: invest in the blackout curtains if you're not naturally an early riser, because the morning light is no joke.

The whole experience feels less like staying in a hotel and more like temporarily living in someone's really, really nice apartment – someone who has excellent taste and definitely more money than you do. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal hotel lobby dance, and the staff genuinely seemed to know what they were talking about when I asked about neighborhood recommendations. They pointed me toward this little Turkish place on Kantstraße that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, that kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold. The only minor thing – and this is really minor – is that the building's entrance is sort of understated, so don't expect some grand hotel facade. You might actually walk past it the first time, which I definitely did not do (okay, fine, I totally did). But once you're inside, you'll understand why this place has that perfect rating. It's not trying to be flashy or impress anyone – it just happens to be exactly what a city stay should feel like.

It was a penthouse apartment so it had everything if you wanted to cook. We di not cook because we wanted to get out and see Berlin. We rented bikes to get around.
