Motel One Berlin-Potsdamer Platz
About
You know what really surprised me about Motel One Berlin-Potsdamer Platz? It's actually got way more personality than you'd expect from a chain hotel. I mean, the name "motel" had me thinking roadside pit stop, but this place sits right in the heart of one of Berlin's most fascinating districts – and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering.
The building itself has this sleek, almost industrial vibe that somehow fits perfectly with Potsdamer Platz's mix of corporate towers and cultural venues. Walking in, you're hit with this lobby that's all dark wood and moody lighting – sort of like a stylish bar that happens to have a reception desk. The staff actually seem to know the neighborhood well, which is refreshing. When I asked about getting to the Sony Center (literally a three-minute walk), the guy at the front desk started rattling off restaurant recommendations in the area without me even asking. The rooms are compact but smart about it – everything's where it should be, and the bed is surprisingly comfortable for a 3-star place. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being so central. You'd think with all the construction and foot traffic around Potsdamer Platz you'd hear everything, but the windows do their job well.
Here's the thing though – this isn't a hotel where you're going to lounge around all day. The breakfast area gets pretty packed (especially around 8-9 AM when the business travelers descend), and there's not much common space beyond that. But honestly, who cares when you're a five-minute walk from the Philharmonie and fifteen minutes from Checkpoint Charlie? I spent most of my time exploring anyway. The U-Bahn station is right there, so getting to Kreuzberg or Mitte is incredibly easy. And if you're into the whole mall scene, the Quartier 206 is basically next door – though fair warning, it's definitely on the pricier side. One evening I grabbed dinner at the Käfer restaurant in the Sony Center and just wandered back through the plaza afterward, watching all the office lights flicker on in the towers. There's something oddly mesmerizing about this part of Berlin at night – it's got this modern energy that's completely different from the historic districts, but just as compelling in its own way. For the price point and that 8.5 rating, Motel One delivers exactly what it promises: a clean, comfortable base in an excellent location without any unnecessary frills.

The Location!
Hotel was very nice and clean and very central
Very clean, comfortable room with a nice shower and comfortable bed. I was worried about noise as I was the same floor as the bar/cafe and there was a party on one of the nights, but there was no noise within the room. Very nice lounge area where you could work, read, etc.
All very good.
Clean, quiet and great location. Comfortable room.
Great location, staff were very accommodating when my window wouldn’t close and they gave me a new room straightaway.
Location was great, very close to train station and some attractions. The room was a bit small, but the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was okay, didn't have much of a variety.
