Osthafen IV
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to Osthafen IV on Stralauer Allee, I wasn't sure what to expect. The building has this industrial-meets-modern vibe that's so quintessentially Berlin, you know? It sits right in the heart of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, and honestly, the location is what really sold me on this place. You're literally a five-minute walk from the Spree riverbank, and I mean the good part where locals actually hang out, not the touristy bits.
The thing about this hotel is that it gets the Berlin energy just right. It's a solid 3-star place, but it punches above its weight in ways that actually matter. The rooms have this clean, minimalist thing going on – think exposed concrete mixed with warm wood touches. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable (I'm picky about mattresses, so that's saying something). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you're right in one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods. The windows do their job, which is crucial because Stralauer Allee can get busy during the day.
You know what really sets this place apart though? The staff actually knows the area. When I asked about getting to Warschauer Straße station, the guy at reception didn't just point me toward the obvious route – he told me about the shortcut through the courtyard that cuts your walk in half. And parking – well, it's Berlin, so street parking is always an adventure, but there are usually spots on the side streets if you don't mind a two-minute walk. The whole Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district has this perfect mix of gritty and gentrified that makes you feel like you're experiencing the real Berlin. You've got trendy cafés and vintage shops mixing with old East German architecture, and RAW-Gelände (that massive cultural complex with all the clubs and galleries) is basically around the corner.
I stayed here during shoulder season, and the 8.1 rating makes total sense – it's the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it's not. The breakfast is decent (though I'd recommend hitting up one of the local bakeries instead), and honestly, you're going to spend most of your time exploring anyway. What I loved most was coming back after long days of wandering around the city to a place that felt authentically Berlin but still comfortable and clean. It's not trying to be a luxury experience, but it nails that sweet spot of being affordable, well-located, and genuinely welcoming. If you want to stay somewhere that feels connected to the neighborhood rather than isolated from it, this is your spot.

It was great for our weekend trip.
The place was easy to find, Many places to go nearby, The river was 200m from the apartmant. Many shops and markets in 1km radius. Big rooms, cozy flat.
Everything was great.
Very pleased with the amenities overall!
Well kept and super clean, the beds are very comfortable and there’s connections to every part of the city nearby.
The bathroom had no key or locking mechanism.
Superb
it was very close to the mercedes-benz arena so it’s the perfect place to stay if you’re attended a concert there!
it gets very hot very quickly and because it’s on the ground floor we didn’t feel safe leaving a window open.
Comfy spacious apartment in a convenient location
The beds were great, the mattresses were very comfortable and the bed was long so plenty of space. The bathroom was very spacious, the shower was a good temperature and had good pressure too. The lounge/kitchen space was lovely, they had all of the facilities that we needed for cooking our own food and there was plenty of relaxation space. Every person's set of towels was a different colour or pattern which was a nice touch, it meant that we did not need to worry about who was using each towel - much easier than when every towel is white! The location was good, only a 5 minute walk to the nearest supermarket and the Berlin Wall remains at the East Side Gallery. There is a U-bahn/S-bahn/tram station within 10 minutes walk, so getting to the centre of Berlin and the airport were both very straightforward.
It did get quite hot and stuffy even though it was only March. We had to have the windows open almost all the time that we were at the apartment otherwise it was too hot in bed at night. For some reason the fridge was unplugged when we arrived so it did take a few hours before it was actually cold enough for us to use.
Very good
Clean and comfy.
The internet was very slow.
good location and private flat
the cooking equipment provided was good and beds were comfortable.
unfortunately the sofa on the left was broken, when u sit on it the leg drops and it was just balancing for ‘show’ but wasn’t usable. also in one bedroom there were no blackout curtains
Good
Location
It's a very normal apartment quite old actually.
Very good
Perfect size, good position
Tiny walls ground floor so you can easily hear Loud neighbours, you have to shower in a tub which is not very practical
Positive impression - its cozy and comfortable.
The apartment matched its pictures, providing a decent, clean, and comfortable stay. Overall, a reliable choice for a hassle-free accommodation experience.
A few improvements could enhance the experience, like additional towels, a couple of tea bags, or instant coffee for weary travelers.
