Rocco Forte Hotel De Rome
About
You know what hit me first about the Hotel De Rome? The lobby doesn't try too hard to impress you – it just does. I mean, when you're dealing with a building that used to be the headquarters of a 19th-century bank, there's already this solid, understated grandeur that speaks for itself. The original vault is still there, actually converted into one of the most atmospheric spa areas I've encountered in Berlin.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel plugged into the city without being overwhelmed by it. You're right on Bebelplatz – yeah, that square where they had the book burning memorial – so there's this weight of history around you, but in a thoughtful way, not heavy-handed. The State Opera is literally across the street, and you can walk to Museum Island in about eight minutes (I timed it). What I really appreciated was how quiet the rooms stay despite being so central. The windows are properly thick, German-engineered thick, so even when there's construction or events happening outside, you're insulated from it all.
The rooms themselves feel more residential than hotel-ish, if that makes sense. Rich fabrics, but not fussy. The marble bathrooms are substantial – like, the kind where you actually want to take a bath instead of just rushing through a shower. Honestly, the attention to detail shows in weird little ways: the closet space is generous (rare for European hotels), the lighting actually works for reading, and the mini-bar doesn't make you feel like you're being robbed. I stayed during Fashion Week when the city was completely packed, and while the hotel was busy, it never felt chaotic. The staff seems to anticipate things without hovering – they'll remember your coffee preference by day two, but they're not going to interrupt your breakfast to ask how everything is every five minutes. The restaurant, by the way, does this excellent modern take on German cuisine that doesn't feel like it's pandering to tourists. And here's something specific – if you're there in summer, try to get a table on the rooftop terrace for dinner. You get this incredible view over the opera house and down Unter den Linden, especially beautiful just as the light is fading and the street lamps start coming on.

Great, central location very close to the museums, Kudamm and Brandenburg Gate, very spacious and comfortable room, well stocked bar with table service. Service throughout my short stay was excellent and the breakfast was excellent. Tram stops nearby, so everywhere was in easy reach.
Very friendly staff great service lovely location
The staff is very friendly, the room was great, de service fantastic. We had a suite and it was spacious. Nice couch, comfortable chairs and the bed in the other room wasn't too soft. When we came back from exploring, the room was adjusted by the staff. Clothing folded, coasters under a bottle of wine, curtains opened or closed (depending the time of day). It made us feel that they really kept an eye out for your comfort.
Quality and location, in that order. Expensive, yes, but quality is expensive.
Everything
Exceptionally placed hotel in Berlin. Very well appointed with all facilities you'd expect for a 5-star hotel. THE BEST breakfast by far we had in Germany. Had the benefit of being able to use the Rooftop Bar with spectacular views across Berlin. Well appointed bathroom including a massive bath. Comfortable beds.
Great location - walkable to many of the iconic attractions in the part that was East Berlin. Great for museum lovers in particular as museum island is literally 5 min walk away. The only reason it did not get 10 from me was due to the in room dininng (which by no means is cheap) served us Caesar salad where the lettuce wasn’t washed properly and there was no dressing. Only small bleep in an otherwise excellent hotel.
I really liked the staff, the facilities, especially the SPA; it was a great way to unwind.
Everything from the minute we arrived was fabulous. Roof terrace was amazing and staff were so friendly. Great experience can't wait to stay again.
