It's actually in one of those converted industrial buildings that Friedrichshain does so well, but somehow Rockchair managed to make it feel properly cozy instead of just trendy-cold. The apartment sits right on Neue Bahnhofstraße, which honestly sounds busier than it is – I mean, you're literally a three-minute walk from Ostkreuz station (massive win for getting anywhere in Berlin), but the street itself has this nice residential vibe that a lot of the more touristy spots lack.

The space itself feels like someone who actually lives in Berlin designed it, not some corporate hotel chain. There's this great mix of exposed brick and warm lighting that doesn't feel forced, and the kitchen – well, it's small but thoughtfully laid out. I actually used it, which is rare for me when I'm traveling. The bathroom's modern without being sterile, and here's something I appreciated: proper water pressure and hot water that doesn't take five minutes to warm up. Small things, but they matter when you're settling in for more than just a night or two. The bed situation is solid too – I'm picky about mattresses and slept really well here. What really sells this place though is the neighborhood feel you get. Friedrichshain around here isn't the party-heavy Simon-Dach-Straße madness – it's more lived-in, with proper cafés and corner shops mixed in with some genuinely good restaurants. There's a Turkish bakery about two blocks down that locals line up at in the mornings, and if you walk maybe ten minutes toward Boxhagener Platz, you hit this weekend market that's worth planning around. The whole area feels like you're staying where actual Berliners live, not in some sanitized tourist bubble. Plus, honestly, having Ostkreuz so close is huge – you can get to Mitte in fifteen minutes, Prenzlauer Berg in ten, and if you want to head out to somewhere like Müggelsee for the day, you're already at the right interchange. The 9.5 rating makes sense to me – it's not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works exactly like it should, and there's something refreshing about staying somewhere that prioritizes comfort over showing off.
